I just received my AVIA disc and adjusted all the basic "user settings" to proper levels (as best I could).
From there I accessed the "Factory Menu" of the TV to further adjust the colors independently.
I did this because when adjusting the saturation (color) via the red, green, and blue filters, I couldn't seem to get it to match the gray bar as good as I would have liked.
So, while in the factory menu, I used the blue filter and adjusted only the "Blue Gain" setting until I got the results I desired, I then repeated this step with red and the red filter. I did NOT change the the green at all because, while I'm new to calibration, I do know that adjusting green after adjusting red and blue would have kept me there all night! Obviously I didn't need to adjust the green, and indeed, when viewing green patterns through the green filter, they were spot-on!
So my question is, what exactly have I done? Did I adjust the grayscale by doing this?
To me the picture after adjustments looks AMAZING! But I'm unsure if I messed something else up by doing this.
Another problem (thing I don't understand) is that any changes to the "RGB Gain" settings are EASILY noticable, but when I try to adjust the "RGB Cutoff" settings, only the "Blue Cutoff" makes a visible difference.
If I move blue ten steps up, the screen turns pink, then red, if I move down, it turns towards green. This is EXTREMEMLY noticable.
However, when I move either Green or Red or both all the way down or up, there is absolutely ZERO effect on the picture, even when viewing IRE windows! Is this normal? If so, how in the world would you adjust cutoff without turning the screen in to a psychedelic trip?
Also, I notice NO color intrusion at all in blacks or whites, so I don't know what I'm doing and would appreciate some general clarification.
Thank you! -Brian
