I have a jvchd61z585 that is just over 2yrs old and has a problem. The jvc certified repair ctr took $155.00 and my tv to the shop and they said I need a new light engine and they need an add'l $950.00 to fix it. The pix was getting darker and darker and I replaced the bulb since the set said it was time but this did not fix the darkening. When I opened the bulb port there were shards of this greenish glass on the mirror. I vacuumed these out and the repair man that came said it was from the old bulb. I don't think a 2yr+ set is worth $1,055.00 to repair in this day and age when new is almost obsolete when taken from the shelf. jvc offered no help. My set is coming back 6/5/07 unrepaired. Does anyone have an idea on repairing this set? My son and I are electronic trained and have no fear of attempting repairs. My thought is to acquire a refurbished light engine and replace the one in the set. Problem is how to identify a light engine? I think it most likely that the glass shards have bound up something or damaged the light engine. Any help?
