Everything was working fine yesterday. Today, I turned the tv on, it stays on for about 5 seconds, then the screen goes black (from the back, you can see the light bulb turned off). The front ON/Standby light is constantly GREEN. After 20-30 seconds of being black screen, the screen re-appears during which you can hear the lamp "firing" on. Then the lamp turns back off after a few seconds. This repeats indefinitely. The LAMP light on the front is not on, nor is it blinking.

The lamp turns on at the first fire-attempt.... it doesn't sound like a bug zapper.

I've tried multiple inputs and sources. Same effect.

Thoughts? Help? please... =)

How many hours on your lamp? Is it the original or a replacement? Lamps should last between 6,000 and 8,000 hours. I replaced my first one at around 6,200 hours; putting the old one away just in case the new one failed within its 90-day warranty. Lamp replacement can be accomplished in about 15 minutes. With shipping, you should be able to get a new one for around $225-250 max.

I'm guessing you don't have an extended warranty. I fortunately got one for my Oct '03 purchase that more than paid for itself when I had to have the light engine replaced in January.

Your problem doesn't sound like a light engine. I'd want to check the lamp or the ballast/igniter circuit.

Good luck

I'm having the same problem with my sony kdfe42a10. At first it was maybe once or twice a day. Now its every 2 minutes. Any suggestions. My set is 14 months old.
