I am currently using time warner as my digital cable provider. I have the HD box, but the only output on the box is DVI no HDMI. Will using a DVI to HDMI cable running between the box and the TV do any good? Is there an improvement in the PQ when running HDMI to HDMI?

Should be fine to run a DVI to HDMI cable or adaptor. Monoprice is your best bet in terms of price, although your local WalMart/Target likely will have reasonably priced cables in stock as well---if you don't want to wait.

Video quality should be the same. Only diff is that HDMI also carries digital audio as well as video. You'll still need to run the separate audio cable(s) from the cable box you are using now if you use the HDMI/DVI cable.

To be honest, however, I (and most others here) have yet to see a real PQ diff from HD cable/sat boxes btwn HDMI/DVI and component. I use component with my Comcast/Motorola HDDVR, leaving my own set's lone HDMI input for DVD.

Of course, if your cable co is using the Moto boxes (or some other brand, still worth an inquiry), you may want to call them or go to your local TWC office to see about swapping for a newer model that is HDMI equipped. For 2+ yrs, I was using the Moto 6412 HDDVR (with DVI only) that was originally supplied to me by Comcast. A few months back, I swapped that unit--at no charge--for a newer version. Now am using the Moto 6416 Series III HDVR. Gained 40GB more storage space, an HDMI out (which is not being used) and a better internal video processor. The latter didn't effect the look of HD (still the same pretty pictures) but the PQ of SD digital and analog cable improved greatly. No more of that "unwatchable" SD programming any more.

May consider doing a swap before investing in any new cables. Should cost you nothing and should only improve PQ and/or features for you. Plus, you won't end up stuck with an HDMI-to-DVI cable that, if/when you should ever leave TWC, would be useless in the future.

edit: In regards to the cable box swap, go to or call your local TWC office as opposed to TWC's 1-800-####### phone reps. The local office will be where any upgraded cable boxes for your area are located and distributed from anyway.

If TWC over-the-phone CSRs are anything like the talking chimps you get from Comcast, you likely get several diff answers in regards to your questions. And they mostly all be wrong!!

Good luck!

For video there is no difference between HDMI and DVI. It's the exact same digital signal. A HDMI to DVI cable from www.monoprice.com will do the job.

If you have a surround sound system you will need a digital cable (optical or coax). If you just want to get sound to your TV then all you need is a pair of RCA type cables for analog audio.
