View Full Version : Wanted: Cliff Notes Recommendations - 32" LCD or DLP

I've gotten overwhelmed by looking at the reviews of all of the different 32" LCD sets on the market (also casually considering rear-projection CRT's) and am seeking some assistance. This forum was instrumental in the pursuit of my last big-screen TV (Hitachi 51S715 rear projection CRT, still going strong), and I'm hoping it can help me out in the pursuit of a smaller, lighter, thinner TV.

Would someone be so kind as to give me a cliff notes version of recommendations for these kinds of units, or direct me to the best active post? I am naturally after the best bang for the buck, but am also one who will pay good money for good quality.

Set-up:

Unit will be initially used strictly for TV viewing and very, very minimal PS gaming (2 hrs/wk max)
It'll end up in the corner of a gameroom for strictly viewing sporting events. Ease of hanging would be nice, but not a requirement. If the best sets aren't those that should be hung, I'm OK with that and will alter the set-up accordingly.
Until it's in a gameroom, it'll be the main TV on a bare bones stand in an apartment living room
It'll be hooked up to a Zenith DVB318 DVD player (the older version that is able to convert the signal)
I will most likely be going thru Cox for analog, digital, and HD services, although DirecTV is also a possibility. Better than average analog viewing is desired.

Any input you have would be MUCH appreciated.

I don't believe they make DLPs that small (the smallest used to be 42", but now it may be 46"). IMO, your best options are LCD, plasma, or tube CRT, and it just comes down to personal preference. If you want small and thin, I'd go plasma (better blacks than LCD).
