Hi guys.

I have a Sony KDL46X2000 (46" lcd) and use the playstation 3 for my blu-ray movies.

In 90% of films, there are large black bars above and below the movie (and it makes me feel as if I am watching the film on a 20" screen lol)

In the "display mode" settings, I can select "SMART" and "WIDE" etc.

SMART=fills more of the screen but chops off parts (and you cannot see the movie details with this mode, as they are chopped off the screen)

WIDE=everything is where it should be, but i have like 7cm black bars above and below.

I realise I am going to get SOME black bars, cos the movies are 2:35:1, but are they meant to be this big.

Depending on how the TV's overscan is set up... it looks about average for a 2.35:1 aspect ratio IMO.

You can get out your tape measure and do a little math to verify but that looks pretty close to a correct 2.35AR on a 1.78AR display to me too.
