Hundreds of owners of Sony LCD rear projection TV's have been reporting problems with defective optical blocks that create visual anomalies described variously as a blue haze, blue blob, or blue fog. The reports have appeared on a variety of forums, including here on AVS, eCoustics, and Agoraquest. To help collect more data on the problem, I have created a web site that attempts to compile information from various sources and includes pictures of an affected optical block and some of its associated parts:

Hi splinke,
Not sure if this is the same thing, it looks like it.

Models affected: KDF-42WE655, KDF-50WE655, KDF-55WF655, KDF-60WF655, KDF-55XS955, KDF-60XS955, KF-42WE620, and KF-50WE620
Additional Service Coverage Information for your TV (blue dot or star pattern on screen)
As technology evolves, Sony continually looks to stand behind there liability of its televisions. It has come to our attention that a limited number of Grand WEGA rear projection televisions (models listed above), after a period of time, exhibit blue dot or star pattern on the screen.
