I currently own the Krell Resolution Ones along with the Resolution Center and have enjoyed them for almost three years. I have seen alot of positive posts here about the Aerials but none on the Krells. I've got the Upgrade bug and a recent upgrade to Theta Citadel amps has me wanting to change speakers. It seems alot of Theta owners go with Aerials but I was wondering if anyone out there has or has heard a Theta/Krell Resolution combo. I really like my Krells and they seem to fit my music listening taste (Rock new or old) but I just keep reading how much people love the Aerials with the Theta gear so any input would be appreciated.

Is there anyone out there who has heard the Krell Resolution's at all.

I've heard of them though never listened to them. My advise would be to seek out a Theta thread and ask the guys. I have both Theta and Krell equipment but no Aerials. I'm a maggies man.

I have and they are my favorite speaker around their price point. The sound between them and Aerials is quite different. While I like Aerial, I would chose the Krell's over them. I find the midrange of the Resolutions to be very "pure" tonally with extremely natural sounding vocals. I wish I had heard them before I bought my speakers. Really though it would boil down to personal preference as the Aerials are great speakers as well. I do not think the Aerials would be an upgrade over the Krells. It's a sideways move and boils down again, to preference.

Bulldogger, you heard the 10Ts at my place. The 9s are more tonally pure in the midrange with better bass than the 10Ts. Have you heard the 9s or just the 10Ts???

I'm not familiar with the Krell Resolution so I can't compare.

I have heard the whole Aerial line. Excellent speakers, just a matter of perference. The Krell Resolutions are a lot different from the Aerials. I have an appointment for some more time with the 20Ts in about two weeks. My wife's job pays for travel expenses because she requires frequent training and I tag along. I get in min. 6 major cities per year. Just in Miami, be in Chicago soon. While my wife is doing training, you know what I am doing.

I have a customer that has the Krells. The design is sound. Many audiophile speakers are really screwed up, but the Krells actually make sense. Now, just because they do, doesn't make them "better" subjectively. Aerials probably get great press because they specialize in speakers and do a great job with them. Krell is known for [overpriced?] high-end amps, so people are leery of their speakers. I'd buy Krell speakers long before I bought Krell amps, personally. If you're talking 20Ts, I'd probably upgrade, but I'm not sure I'd trade for Aerial 9s unless *you* are convinced they're better. Seems like a lateral for the most part.

I posted this question a little over three weeks ago. I'm glad to finally see some feedback. I haven't posted here much but I have been reading the forums for close to a year now and what I've learned here in that time has been very helpful. I heard the Aerials right before I bought the Krells for a brief period at a store in Washington D.C. but I wasn't there to listen to them I was there to listen to the Watchdog that they had paired up with the Aerials. I didn't really pay a lot of attention to the Aerials as my attention was focused on the Watchdog. I would like to go back to the store and set down with some materiel that I prefer to listen to and try to see what the Aerials are all about. At this point I am planning to keep the Krells because I feel that the Aerials may be a move up in some areas but not all and to me that is a lateral move as some have said. The dealer is about two and a half hours away in D.C. but I'm hoping to go sometime in the next few weeks and see what I think of the Aerials. At that point I may change my mind.

I auditioned Aerial Model 20T yesterday and one of my friends owns same Krell Resolution 1s as you...

Here is my point-regarding bass depth and power even Aerial Model 20T is in the same class as Resolution 1. Since you like Rock music my advice would be to stick with your Resolution 1s or look for something else...

New Revel Ultima Salon2 could be a potentila candidate for you. I audition it in March 2007 in Rome Top Audio Show(it was European premiere of new Ultima2 series) and I was pretty impressed with them.

That's one of my two recommendations, either the Revels or perhaps the Wilson Sophia II for someone coming from the Resolutions. I listen to mostly Jazz but I am a serious fan of
classic rock. What I find is that many audiophile speakers can not really, "boggie" when say the Rolling Stones are jamming. They lack the slam needed to fully convey a live performance. If you listen to Jazz only which can "swing" many audiophile speakers are excellent at this and can keep up. Let the "Stones" start jamming and then you may find that you prefer another speaker. For example "Doo, doo, doo, (Heartbreaker)", a favorite track of mine of the Stones is a good rock track because of the guitar chord changes as well as it sounding best loud and dynamic. Turn up AC/DC, my favorite Classic Hard Rock band, and differences will become even more apparent. I do not think that it is again so much that one speakers is better than the other but rather different. What made me really like the Krell Resolutions 1 was a demo of the Beatles. I had never been a Beatles' fan. NEVER. The demo was SO good that I went out and bought my first Beetles' album. The pre/pro was a Meridian G68 but I do not recall the amps. Dan D'Agostino started his audio designing career from what I have read as a speaker designer. My preferences for speakers seems to be dominated by my choice of music. For someone to recommend a speaker to you, you really need to know what type of music they prefer. I listen to mostly Jazz but my speaker have to be able to rock when, I am in the mood for AC/DC. Early on I would demo speakers listening to tracks of Jazz or Classical that the dealer would have on hand. Many dealers will not "break out" the Stones or AC/DC for a demo :) . In fact the term, "Rock speakers' is used as an insult that is hurled at some speakers by some high-end dealers except I happen to like Rock ;) . Again I am not saying the Aerial can not handle this. I am saying I prefer the Krells. The Aerials excel at vocals and are dynamic too. The 9's are a very musical speaker that are natural sounding and easy to enjoy for extended periods. They are a great solid performer. Sometimes I like things to "get a little rough" though and not all speakers do this quite as well.

Bulldogger,
I agree with you.
This is the reason why I liked Avalon Isis(yes, it is in all different price range) that much. It is combination of Wilson MaxxII slam and power with Eidolon Diamond finesse. It really have excellent bass power, depth and resolution.
Other speaker that I like almost that much is Krell LAT-1000.

New Revel Ultima Salon2 is truly special speaker as well, maybe even the best one up to $30K for Jazz and Rock fans. We listen Black in Black on it and it really rocked. BUT, Patricia Barber was impressive as well...

So, going from Krell Resolution 1? If money is no object choose between Avalon Isis, Krell LAT-1000 or Wilson MaxxII-all are excellent speakers IMHO. If money is a important thing then Revel Ultima Salon2 would be my first choice.

Thanks for your input Kreso and Bulldogger I think both you guys are right on the money. For what I listen to (Godsmack, Korn, Metallica etc) this is the speaker for me. As I said these speakers have served me well for three years I just got that itch for something new but your input has helped put a stop to it. Kreso I haven't heard any of the speakers you mentioned in person and I probably don't want to because money is a issue and if I hear those I might want what I can't have.
