View Full Version : Good Shephard - WTF???
Dr Kain 06-08-07, 09:55 PM Wow, The Good Shephard is the most boring movie I have seen in a long time. It isn't bad as in Happily Never After bad, but rather just boring. No wonder this movie bombed in theaters. I'm at 85 minutes into the movie, and I do not think I can last the remaining 90. At least the video is pretty good.

alfbinet 06-08-07, 10:38 PM I may be in the minority but I rather liked it. Right now I am watching Brotherhood of the Wolf (HD DVD-Studio Canal) with subtitles and really digging it so my tastes may be different.

Brotherhood of the Wolf is one of my favorite movies :D, I so wanna get the French Import. I've heard it's absolutely amazing quality.
MidnightWatcher 06-08-07, 11:52 PM The Good Shepherd is a good movie. It needs to be your type of film, however, otherwise you'll be unable to keep your attention on what is happening.
zalahmar 06-09-07, 12:51 AM I thought it was a good movie. Not everyone's cup of tea, if you were expecting something with a lot of action like other spy flicks, you chose the wrong movie. I personally enjoyed it, the only thing I didn't like too much was Angelina Jolie's part and the fact that Matt Damon never seemed to age... other than that, I like it.

I'm with you. I tried to watch it 2 times. Fell asleep both times. Boring X 3.

I am with you, I really like TGS, but it HAS to be your type of movie if you arent into it then you wont like it......
One of the best spy movies ever. 5 stars for me, but of course I love movies like these.
BTBuck1 06-09-07, 03:13 AM Whenever I want to take a nap I put on The Good Shepherd. It knocks me out everytime. It used to be Phantom Of the Opera, but that chicks high voice would always startle me and I would fall off the couch ;) :p
But it's a reference picture! :)
I Superman I 06-09-07, 04:45 AM I enjoyed the movie alot and thaught Matt Damonds character seemed insanley hard to play and pull off, which I thaught he did fairly well. It's an interesting movie, and I don't think alot of people really get it too well, there are some things the film did pretty poorly, that forces you to really pay attention, espcially sense it's so speech intensive. Great movie, one that's better the second time through, when the time switches are already known and understood.
Not another "I HATE THIS MOVIE" thread!

Don't believe what you hear. It looks awful.

Really??? Everyone else I've heard mention Brotherhood says it's up there with the matrix trilogy and U:E import??
HPforMe 06-09-07, 09:39 AM Liked it a lot. A movie I consistently go to sleep on is POTC though. The sound and fury goes on endlessly. Maybe good for zit popping kids but that's it.

I don't understand why anyone would say that. They're simply setting others up for a huge disappointment. It's way too soft, even smeary at times and has some of the nastiest looking grain I've seen.
Mr. Cinema 06-09-07, 11:07 AM I wouldn't say this "bombed" at the theaters. It earned $59.9 million in the US. And I doubt the production budget was that high, or much higher.
Dr Kain 06-09-07, 11:16 AM Not another "I HATE THIS MOVIE" thread!
I'm not saying I hated it, I just found it boring. It seemed well acted most of the time, and the story seemed to be decent, but very convulted at times (he suddenly turns out to be a Russian spy, WTF???), and the ending with his son's fiancee was messed up, but there is no way I can ever watch it again.

The majority opinion, both in this forum and in the few reviews I've seen, is that the French and English HD DVD imports of Brotherhood of the Wolf feature outstanding PQ. There are several posters in the BOTW thread here at AVS calling it a Tier 1 transfer.
I can't say firsthand until my copy arrives next week, but based on what I've read I doubt I'll be disappointed.

I fail to see why anyone would say that. Perhaps they think they've paid so much for the import that they need to justify the expense to themselves. It's not a faithftul transfer (saw the movie in a theater) and it most definitely does not have the so-called WOW-factor either. Unless it's "Wow, look at how soft it is!", or "Wow, where's the fine detail?"
Aw hell, sorry for going way off-topic. I'll reserve my comments on the BOTW to its thread from now on.
karlw2000 06-18-07, 05:10 PM Finally watched my Blockbuster copy that was sitting around since I didn't want to sit for over 2 hours trying to stay awake. Well, I didn't think it was that bad...and I stayed up till 12:30am watching the whole thing. It was better than Breach that did bore me.

didn't think it was bad at all, but not as gripping as i had expected.
Liked it a lot. A movie I consistently go to sleep on is POTC though. The sound and fury goes on endlessly. Maybe good for zit popping kids but that's it.
So anyone who likes POTC is a zip popping kid? Looks like I am a zit popping kid since POTC is one of my fav movies.
Man, I love some of the comments people at these forums make that are utterly ridiculous.
A movie I found a bit boring was Children of Men...and YES, I GOT IT.
roachxp 06-18-07, 10:19 PM I liked the PQ, but had to rewatch is 3 times I fell aspleep twice.
Yea...it's pretty bad. I have honestly popped it in 4 different times and fell asleep on all of them. I just gave up trying to watch it. It's sitting on the shelf collecting dust right now.
FerretHunter 06-20-07, 09:00 AM I tried to watch this movie, and it bored me like no other movie ever has. I don't think I lasted 90 minutes. My recollection is foggy, but it seemed every line was being whispered in the movie.
Every once in a while they would show Angelina Jolie, and I'd wake up. Then she'd be gone and it would be back to sleep for another 20+ minutes. Speaking of her character, there was no chemistry between her and Damon's character. They didn't really talk much to each other. She just decided to bang him for no real reason. Where are these women in real life?
Since I paid for this turd, I'll eventually see it through. I hope in the end someone blows away Damon's character and De Niro's for consistently whispering all the time!

Not ridiculous. True. Snoozefest. Sound and fury that goes on endlessly. Crap.
maingon 06-20-07, 06:06 PM I liked it, its not an action flick or anything. Its not the best movie but I liked it, I wouldnt buy it though, not a money you need to see twice

You didn't get it.
Rusty James 06-20-07, 06:21 PM You didn't get it.
Damn! Beat me to it. :)
Rob Tomlin 06-20-07, 08:25 PM I liked The Good Shepherd quite a bit, but I can understand why some might think it was boring.
I saw it in the theaters...don't think it's worth owning.
cityscapex5 06-21-07, 01:12 AM I didnt have high expectations for it since i don't like political thrillers nor do I like Matt Damon but i was enthralled by the movie and the PQ was excellent.
Dave Mack 06-21-07, 02:14 AM What do y'all watch your movies at 3am in bed or something?!?
If not and you actually are "falling asleep" (regardless of how engaging a film is), perhaps a trip to the doctor is in order...?
:)
i really enjoyed the good shepherd, but i went into it with virtually no expectations. i didn't mind the pace or the low-key tone of the movie. the girlfriend hated it, though, but that was only because she thought matt damon's character was an as$hole.
