that SR1 isn't looking so bad now! Hmmm....

OK I made up this list to help decide which of these I should get. Thought maybe someone might get some use of it. If anyone sees errors or can add to this let me know, I'm just going by what I've read. Heading out to the stores now to see what's out there and try to get some hands-on with the sr1.

Also I see conflicting info on the video rez of the sr1, is it 1440x1080 (pricegrabber) or 1920x1080 (camcorderinfo)?

I believe the SR-1 is 1440 X 1080 as that is what natively input with Nero 7.

I did get to use the sr1 for a good 45 minutes today, must say I liked it a lot. Obviously they didn't have the sr7 but I did try some other sony 2.7" lcd models, the menu is pretty much the same, and the big 3.5" screen is very nice as far as making the menu use fast and accurate. A bit trickier on the smaller screen. And like everyone says the control ring was great too. In light of the announcement of the sr5c, I'm hoping for a sr1c-like announcement too... It seems strange that they are releasing so many different models, on slightly staggered dates, is that normal for camcorders? Anyway, my thought was that with so many models coming out, there MUST be another one with the big screen/control ring, and the addition of the 100 G drive, and hopefully anything else the sr1 was missing. I just need it by October!

On second thought, I must be crazy, how could sony do the reasonable thing? ;) :D

Get the HDR-SR7. I got one and it's very impressive. (be sure that you have a powerfull PC that can edit/convert these m2ts files)
Concerning the pictures, get a canon if you want good quality and ignore the camcorder.

Hey cmichel, can you post up some of the raw files of short clips perhaps?

My HP laptop bought years ago, with 1.6G CPU and 512MB memory, can play m2t file perfect in the VLC player. Actually it impressed because I thought my laptop won't work so well... is it powerful enough to handle m2t files on theory?

My pc struggled to play the Canon HV10 and HV20 demo videos via WMP. I just loaded VLCPlayer and it didn't stutter on the same videos.

VLC, thumbs up!

Have you had any trouble with playback on the PC being choppy... Or maybe interlacing/artifacting in fast moving scenes?

Thanks!

Not really, my PC has the QX6700 and stays at 20% when I play these files.

Also you might want to upgrade your Video Card (NVidia new video cards can do hardware decompression)

Would you please give details on your computer. I am wanting to upgrade but am not sure what cpu and video card I need to give smooth editing using PS 11.0.

My PC can handle the files... I dont have the camera... Some say the codec has some issues with fast moving sences... (from the sr1) I was just wondering if this proplem was on the new ones as well...

I am having problems viewing. During play back on my computer i get a bad stutter when the camera moves.

i have a Pentium Extreme Duol Core 3.2ghz, 2gb of ram, and 2 nvidia 256mb graphics cards (SLI).

Also when i try to make AVCHD Dvd's the stutter is also there. If i were to play the raw files on my PS3 the picture is perfect.
