The res can be : 720P 1080i 480p 480i 720P 50hz 1080i 50hz 576p 50z 576i 50hz That means on say a iscan vp50 you can handle all of them on some of the other models atleast a few. I tested most from dvi/component -> vp50 Daniel. oferlaor 06-10-07, 09:19 AM anyone seriously think that PQ on this thing will be adequate? I saw the unit in the Mac store in Menhatten. Nice GUI, mediocre PQ. yes the demo stuff is 'bad' but it can handle h.264 upto about 5 to 6Mbit 1280x720. With some work your encodings can look better than dvd. I suspect thats what they will provide in time. Its kind of weird why some of the demo stuff looks so bad . Daniel. PS: if you run into one again, watch some of the movie trailers on it they are of good quality. fulusu 06-11-07, 02:13 AM Just like all DVD players are not created equal. I am curious about the PQ of this unit too. Streaming video is different from steaming audio signal - as long as I stream uncompressed audio signal, the quality will depend on the DAC. No sure if there is the same analogy - stream video data and have a high quality DAC to process the video data. mgavsf 06-11-07, 07:04 PM FWIW I have my AppleTV going through a VP50 and the picture is stunning on a 50 plasma. Never tried it without the VP50 though. I set the ATV at different resolutions and 720/1080 both looked great. Sharp as a tack with lot's of depth, of course the VP50 probably has a lot to do with that. PS. We liked it so much I put one in the excersize room. That one is using the Apple Extreme wireless router (802.11n) and it's almost as fast as the wired one. We'll probably add one in the kitchen now. It's great to now have instant/easy access to all of our CDs and pictures collected over the years. fulusu 06-11-07, 10:28 PM regicat, The PQ you mentioned, I assume you are talking about movies. mgavsf 06-12-07, 04:16 PM The music videos, movies, and previews are astonishing quality. But all screens including all text and cover art look great. It's going HDMI to the VP50 which is in turn feeding the plasma via component (no HDMI on the plasma). fulusu 06-12-07, 10:20 PM regicat, What is your sources' resolution? I am thinking of streaming DVD videos by converting them Apple TV compliant to 720x 480 and feed the scaler with this resolution. The sound will suffer. Any suggestion? mgavsf 06-14-07, 10:37 AM I tried various resolutions on the Apple TV and they all looked great with the 720p and 1080i being the best. I am sending the audio direct to my processor (Krell) and the sound is fantasic. Keep in mind I encoded the CDs using Apple Lossless so preserve the CD sound. On a side note I am sending an Directv HDVR2 SD svideo through the VP50 and if can work magic on that the Apple TV is a no brainer for it. I have not converted a DVD and can't speak for that. There are various sites now that cover DVD to Apple TV. |
