View Full Version : And even more Sony problems - LOL!
Gizmo123 06-09-07, 08:38 AM Anyone who hasn't bought Resistance: Fall of Man yet, better hurry up before it's gone! Yeah, right! LOL!
Church of England wants RFOM pulled from shelves (http://apnews.excite.com/article/20070609/D8PL8PP80.html)
jedimastergrant 06-09-07, 09:44 AM Yep, trouble indeed. Boy, I sure regret buying my PS3. What a mistake. And there are just no games coming out for it either. I really don't know what I will play the second half of 07. I wish they had a lineup of potential killer exclusives coming out this year or something. Then I would stop using it as a ranch dressing dispenser. Well, actually I would still use it to dispense yummy ranch dressing too (have to admit that guys post made me laugh pretty hard).
Come on trolls, join in the fun! It's easy pickens. But, it won't be for long, so get in your jabs while you still can.
The Church of England is right.
Resistance: Fall of Man is mind rotting filth.
William Mapstone 06-09-07, 09:59 AM The bishop of Manchester, the Rt. Rev. Nigel McCulloch, said: "It is well known that Manchester has a gun crime problem. For a global manufacturer to recreate one of our great cathedrals with photorealistic quality and then encourage people to have gunbattles in the building is beyond belief and highly irresponsible."
...but we have been told that the graphics suck in R:FoM.;) These xbox fanboys need to set Rev. McCulloch straight!

you have photo realistic quality in might and magic for pc, yet you don't see people kicking each other off ledges, sneaking up and stabbing them in the neck, casting magic spells and killing ogres >.>
So, the Church of England bought a PS3, eh?
ChrisFB 06-09-07, 10:29 AM It appears even God is an Xbox fanboy tolling the PS3 forums. At this point it is clear the PS3 is doomed.
elikhom 06-09-07, 10:29 AM I love it, free publicity. Gosh, I want play this game so bad, even with all the flaws that Xbox fans see in it. But I decided to wait till later this year for the console.
Be strong elikhom!!

isaidme 06-09-07, 12:13 PM The mods must be on vacation? Why has this not been deleted along with all the other Troll posts?
Slacker George 06-09-07, 01:12 PM shows a virtual shootout between rival gunmen with hundreds of people killed inside the cathedral Ummm no, it doesn't.
chokeslam 06-09-07, 02:59 PM It appears even God is an Xbox fanboy
LOL, good one. :D
I hope I don't get struck by lightning the next time I play Resistance multiplayer.
Fallensight 06-09-07, 05:04 PM All that guy is going to do is increase the sales of the game. Whenever someone comes out and attacks media like this it just gives it free advertising.
Darkhawk76 06-09-07, 05:34 PM Glad the church never played Painkiller for the PC.
elikhom 06-09-07, 05:54 PM Sony's response:
The Church dilemma: Sony's response
Added on 09/06/2007.
The recent scandal between the Church of England and SCEE was quite unexpected. Here's Sony's side of the coin.
In the most recent official statement, Sony said: "Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is aware of the concerns expressed by the Bishop of Manchester and the cathedral authorities... and we naturally take the concerns very seriously."
However, Sony believes it has obtained all necessary permission to use the Manchester Cathedral within Resistance: Fall of Man (at least so they say.) "We believe we have sought and received all permissions necessary for the creation of the game," the statement added.
Sony describes the setting of the game as "an alternate and mythical version of Europe in the 1950's, in which the enemy are strange looking alien invaders seeking to destroy humanity," clarifying that "Resistance: Fall of Man is a fantasy science fiction game and is not based on reality."
When speaking to The Times newspaper, a Sony spokeperson said, "It is game-created footage, it is not video or photography.
"It is entertainment, like Doctor Who or any other science fiction. It is not based on reality at all. Throughout the whole process we have sought permission where necessary."
Finally, the firm said it plans to get in touch with the Cathedral authorities on Monday "to understand their concerns in more detail."

Bretskii 06-09-07, 06:03 PM I'd be willing to bet some far more disturbing things have happened in that church, than what we see in that purely fictional game.

LOL
Seriously though, its great publicity for the game!
On a side note, Insomniac should make the church into a 8 person free-for-all death match like Thames.
Spektricide 06-09-07, 08:02 PM Ah it's got nothing to do with the church.
The Brits are just pissed that an American had to come bail them out again.
joe_six_pack 06-09-07, 08:26 PM I seriously laughed when I read that news article earlier. I didn't think that anyone that actually played through the game even thought this would be a major point of controversy.
That level is a PITA on superhuman, so if they want to pull it out, be my guest. lol

While I think the graphics are okay the gameplay is what sucks to me. I put it in for a few minutes and was bored out of my wits. I can't stand that game. I have all three next gen systems but I have more fun with my 360. Still if you want to call me a fan boy atleast I'm having fun playing the many games while my ps3 and yours sits and rots.

Frankly, the gameplay of R:FoM is exactly the same as any other shooter, including Halo, Halo 2 and what I have seen of Halo 3. The only difference is that with R:FoM you can have a lot more players online and the frame rate is locked pretty high.
isaidme 06-10-07, 04:47 AM What Dralt said. Now I know this guys full of $hit, RFOM plays exactly like every other FPS including Gears Of War which I also own. I actuly prefered RFOM over Gears. I enjoyed fighting 50 or so bad guys on the screen at once with a good frame rate which Gears didnt have.
Bretskii 06-10-07, 06:52 AM I wish I had 600$ to blow, just so I could be a troll.

LMAO
During the 7+ years I have owned a front projector, I have never clocked so many gaming hours on it as I did during the last 7 months!
Mattardo 06-10-07, 10:37 AM The funniest part is that the soldiers were defending England (which includes the Church) from aliens: and we all know aliens are sent from the Devil. Or are they worried that the implication is that the aliens are actually angels sent from God to punish us? Is the transformation to alien form the rapture and the second glorious body we are to receive? I liked the premise in Neon Genesis Evangelion in which the Angels (though not technically christian angels - but they had juedo-christian names) are attacking humanity and we had to fight them. We shouldn't be too surprised at a church attacking perceived threats to their "tourism" - which is what it seems to be all about. Personally, I want to go there with my friends and "relive" the adventure and treat Church of England officials as the aliens they really are. Jesus came from outerspace (Heaven) and died and rose again (as a super alien!) and the CHurch of England is anxiously awaiting his return! We must fight!
And though ROFM was enjoyable for a while, it is still just another FPS. I had fun playing it (mostly) and that's why I bought it. IF someone else thinks differently, it doesn't bother me. Seriously, folks, just enjoy the games you play and if you don't enjoy them then don't play them - or bitch about em, whatever...
Gizmo123 06-10-07, 02:00 PM What does God/Devil or Christianity have to do with aliens from outer space? Unless you're talking about Scientology! :p
Doctor Krypton 06-10-07, 03:55 PM What does God/Devil or Christianity have to do with aliens from outer space? Unless you're talking about Scientology! :p
Strange. It's merely a setting for a sci fi story. When will churches understand that buildings are meaningless.
Mattardo 06-10-07, 07:13 PM What does God/Devil or Christianity have to do with aliens from outer space? Unless you're talking about Scientology! :p
There are various books (Chariots of the Gods) that believe that the angels, gods, demons of mythology, folklore and religion were actually aliens visiting us. Different books have different ideas. Some think the aliens seeded this planet with DNA, or left some of their own species and gave them directions to live (religion), some think that they created pyramids (or at least directed the building of them). There are accounts in the prophetic books of the Old Testament that seem to point to flying saucer sightings. So essentially: these people try to explain away religion and it's miracles, powers, events as being essentially alien in nature. I'm not religious, personally, but if you were to literally try to explain what angels, gods are that come from heaven - aliens would be the correct term. I was being sarcastic and assuming that these ideas (which have been milling around for a long time) were more known. Jesus on his second coming : "Take me to your leaderrrrrr!@ I come in peace!" ZAP!~
