After running F@H for a while, I've noticed just how hot the PS3 gets. So, I was thinking of those add on cooling devices. Anyone use one? Any tests to see if they actually do anything?

No, i think the PS3 is very well designed, i have had mine on for 2 months straight, now my 360 , i use a intercooler and it works great, i have had my 360 since launch.

See, I had read a review about the 360 coolers not working well.

My PS3 is nice and silent though compared to my 360.

ventilate your equipment cabinet if you need to, but IMO I wouldn't bother with anything that is directly added to the PS3. Sony designed the cooling system well, no reason to possibly mess with the design. Supposodly Stanford Univ. tested the PS3 to make sure that it could be run 24/7 before commiting to the PS3 folding@home project.

I wouldn't bother. Give Sony some credit for engineering the thing properly without needing such devices.

only thing iw oudl CONSIDER if i was dead set on that (which i am with everybody else, PS3 is built very well) is a llaptop cool pad that woudl cool the bottom of the PS3, not force ari through it.

on the 360 teh intercooler is a BAD idea. i woudl never consider it for any of my systems

I considered a laptop cooler. The thing is though, the ps3 doesn't vent much heat from the bottom. A laptop cooler wouldn't do much. It might give the ps3 more room to breathe though if it's off the shelf.
