I just moved into a new place, and due to the shape of things, I'm going to have to hook things up a little differently.

The thing is, I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR, and I've heard the magnets inside the drives can really mess things up. I know my parents old TV got screwed up when they left the box on top of their TV against my recommendations.

Mine wont be close to the TV, but it would be really close to other equipment. Mainly my receiver and DVD player. I'm thinking of having the cable box sit next to the receiver, and have the DVD player stacked on top of it.

But, again, I'm not sure how that would work out, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks for your help!

Iamb going to make a wild leap of faith and say that nothing bad will happen. :)
Gazillions of components are stacked or placed next to devices with hard drives, big foot sightings are more common than reports of hard drive caused problems in other components.

Cable boxes and DVRs often have warning instructions against stacking them, but that is because some models run hot and seem to have a marginal capacity to waste heat.

Experiential evidence-- my Moto DVR is located about a 1.5 inches above my receiver, and two inches below my DVD player and nothing has become magnetized or de-gaussed.

Awesome. That's all I was after... :D

I didn't really think it'd be an issue, but I figured better safe than sorry!

Thanks!
