this sr5c model announcement begs the question, when will the sr1c be announced?

how about 3.5" lcd, control ring, 100 G hd, all manual options, OIS and 1920x1080i all in one supreme model?

Wil this camcorder record in a compressed format like HDV, or is it really uncompressed 1900x1080i HD?

can someone help me out here. I'm not seeing a huge difference between the SR5C and the SR8 besides the $300 price difference. Is it really worth the extra $300 for the SR8?

Looks like the SR8 sports optical image stabalization vs. electronic for the SR5C.
Just click on the compare squares, thats the only way to get info on the SR8.

So is optical IS is $300 better than electronic?

it also has the little scroll wheel for manual controls. it isn't as good as the control ring on the sr1, but at least it's something. On the sr5 or sr5c the only way to change those settings is in the menu.

Which may be worth everything to one person and nothing to the next. Personally I'm not sure if I'd ever even use the thing, but I like keeping my options open.

I think they have different sensors too. Both are 1/3" but the sr5 (or sr5c) has 2.1M pixels and the sr7(or sr8) has 3.2M pixels. According to what I've read, this is good and bad; more pixels will give better sharpness but at the expense of lower quality when shooting in low light. So kind of a wash there.

So roughly $150 for OIS and another $150 for the scroll wheel? Not sure what else is different, if anything. I had kind of counted out the sr5, but the sr5c brings it back into the game. Between the sr1, sr5, and sr7, I've been convinced that each was the one I was going to buy, at some point in the last 2 weeks. Now I just don't know.

Ohh what to do... I think I need to step away from the camcorder (over)analysis for a while, then come back and see how the landscape looks in another couple months. See where the prices on these guys end up (real prices not msrp), which will ultimately drive a good part of my decision.

This is hard to measure in $$$.

But if I selected two identical cams and one had optical and other had electronic I would select optical.

$300 is a bit steep IMO but you will regret not getting optical down the road.

What rez do these cameras record in, 1440x1080 or 1920x1080?

Also, why do they only allow the increased field rate for a few seconds? Is there some reason the camera cannot support this mode for an extended period of time?

Is it confirmed that these are AVCHD cameras?

Good question, I'd guess it would either overheat, or just couldn't keep up with processing that much data in real time.

Is it confirmed that these are AVCHD cameras?
Yes
