Does anyone have this HD DVD? My wife really wants it but I've never bought any imports. Is the menu in English? Are there forced subtitles?

Thanks for you opinion but as I have already stated my wife likes this movie. Can anyone comment on my questions without giving their review of the movie.

I have both the HD DVD and the Blu-ray of this as my wife is a fan of the movie. For me it was one of the better chick flicks. As far as the two go, I prefer the HD DVD video transfer over the Blu-ray, but both are excellent. Since I don't have a way to access the PCM sound track on the Blu-ray disc, the Dolby Digital+ soundtrack on the HD DVD sounds better to me, but again, it is just a chick flick so nothing earth shattering here.

The HD DVD is in English, but right off the bat you are able to choose from all the many many languages for both audio, subtitles and menus. This choice, on my XA2, is required every time the disc is inserted (not like the French Total Recall HD DVD which remembers your selection). There are no forced subtitles in English or Italian(which I speak fluently so a nice bonus for me :) ), I can't say that for certain in other languages. Only down side of this release is the case, it is one of the Amary HD DVD cases. It is the same size as other HD DVD cases except that it is about the thickness of 1 and a half regular HD DVD cases. It is the only case I have like this, so not really a big deal, but odd none the less. In all a very good release and I am ebaying my copy on Blu-ray.

I bought it from Xploited and he shipped super fast. I'm very pleased and will be buying The Prestige next to replace my Blu-ray copy of that as well.

I have the HDDVD and can only say the PQ is average no real 3D pop, and yes it's a chick flick.

My other imports look way better HP:GOF, and Goal alot of 3D pop. Still trying to find Resident Evil in Japan.

This is way off topic but..... why buy both copies for a movie that you admit is a chick flick. Did you just want to see which was a better transfer.

Yes thats part of it. Even though I have both formats I feel that HD DVD is the better product and would rather have the movie on HD DVD.

in your own word OPINION in this forum you say what you think
about a movie. if the guy said crapmovie that is because he think it is
so what is wrong about that and he is entitled to that. If he think it is
a bad movie respect it, he is not telling you not to buy it...

I agree the HD-DVD PQ is average. (BD also I think)

Is this movie any good? I keep seeing it at Blockbuster but always pass on a rental.

If you like movies that go on for too long that feature way too much exposition, by all means give the Holiday a spin.

Without spoiling anything Cameron Diaz' character is annoying. Jude Law is playing a younger version of the Hugh Grant character we've seen dozens of times before. Kate Winslet's character has a decent story but it's not strong enough. Jack Black is completely tacked on.

No one said you can't have an opinion, but just because you have one doesn't mean you have to share it where it is not wanted. Specifically, this thread is about the DISC quality, not the movie itself. Comments on the movie are off-topic and therefore, don't belong in this thread.

Sorry to nitpick, but this post isn't about disc quality at all. It's just a statement that it is now available on HD DVD through Exploited. I don't see how that's open to the interpretation that certain opinions aren't wanted based on the original post. Thank you.

I guess you have to trust me on that one :D

Being on topic, I'd say the BD version of this movie is pretty soft for the most part. It has it's moments from what I can remember when I rented it, but overall it's just a decent, clean looking transfer.....nothing special.
