Hello I am the owner of a japanese PS3. I trying downloading an update ( I have never updated it before)

It was a file PS3UPDAT.PUP around 110MB. No area ( US , JP , EU e.t.c.) no version name , nothing. I put it in my iPod connected the ipod to the PS3 and tried to update by going at the update system button and choosing to update via storage media.

It does not work since it finds no applicable update data. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried downloading an update from the japanese site but it is exactly the same file.

You need to have the update file in the correct folders for the PS3 to recognize it. It should be "PS3" > "UPDATE" > "PS3UPDAT.PUP".

The full instructions are here:

Oh I see. Thanks a lot for the information. I tried to google it but it always came up with information about the patch released and not about how to actually apply it. On top of everything my graphics card died, and I was without pc for 1 day. But anyway thanks :)

One last question. Does it matter from where you download the update? I mean is it region dependant?

The file always appeared in the different regions. I have only ever downloaded one FW update to PC, and I made sure it was from the JPN site just in case. Every other update Ive done was via the PS3 itself.
