I plan to buy Pioneer's plasma Elite PRO-110FD which is their new 1080p unit [available in Sept.]

I have a couple hundred standard def DVDs. What I want to do is put all of them in a Pioneer multi-disk DVD player (that holds 301 disks), connect it to a scaler to up-process it to a reasonable def, and pipe that into the new plasma unit when it comes in.

My questions are:

Is this do-able?

Does it make sense?

Can you suggest some scalers that would be good [simple is better].

Can you tell me anything else I should know?

Thanks,
George SSSS

Budget?

$1,000 (or less, if possible). The plasma will be the best Pioneer makes, so I'd like a decent amount of up-processing to make the old style DVDs look as good as reasonably possible.

Sorry I can't be more precise, but that's the best explanation I can give.

Thanks for the good question.

I started with a low cost scaler (Atlona) for my dishnetwork pvr and it worked pretty good, so I connected my panasonic dvd player and set the scaler to 720p via component video and I was very surprised of the video quality.
So now I have several video components I want to route through the scaler so what I did was pick up an extron scaler with more inputs and I have one of the best pictures I have ever seen on my hdtv and PJ.
What I mean about all this is take your time and research and see what suits you best ,
because even an hdmi connection can look very good without a scaler...
Now I do have the atlona laying around so Pm me if you want.

I would test the DVD changer without a scaler, you might be surprised at how well
the Pioneer unit upscales on its own, before considering buying a scaler.
