Well, I just found out, with my Toshiba HD-XA1 player, that HD DVD's with the new Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby True HD gets downmixed to DTS. Two movies last night, MI III and The Bourne Supremecy both had audio dropouts, and could'nt even watch Bourne S. due to each consecutive dropout made the voice synch worse. Wierd. We've had several other HDDVD's without problems. Is this normal now for me...meaning a time to upgrade my Lexicon DC-1? ...hoping not.

The new audio formats cannot be transmitted over S/PDIF. So your only options are to use the analog outputs OR use a receiver that can handle audio over HDMI.

But Michael, I thought my $300 DC-1 was so up to date! lol Darn it! Now I have to start saving for a new HT processor in addition to a new JL 113 sub I desire....always something ;)

I think the DC1 predates the 5.1 analog bypass option that many processors have now. Sony made a low cost 5.1 analog pre-amp that may be able to be found on audiogon. That would be the cheapest solution. Not sure it it has a bypass for the DC1 but think it does.

Bulldogger is correct that DC-1 did not have analog bypass. You may want to PM Shawn Fogg though. He does have a solution for this should you want to stay with existing unit.

Sanjay, good question. This was the first time I noticed I was in DTS mode and having audio dropouts. Wierd though it's not been consistent.
And I'd hate to go back to analog connects, I just got this Illuminata dig cable that rocks.

BTW, even if your DC-1 is operating properly, I would still suggest scoping out newer pre-pros and/or receivers. Keep in mind that it is a 12 year old product and lots of useful technology (besides new codecs) have appeared since then. I'd hate to go back to analog connectsNo reason to go back to analogue connections when HDMI is available.
