I just installed the new Safari 3.0 beta running Mac OS 10.4.9 (required) on a 15-inch PowerBook G4. Safari is noticeably faster and smoother.

Speed-wise, how does it feel compared to Camino 1.5?

I've never used Camino and only have used Firefox occasionally...

Feels faster than the current nightly builds of Camino... Looks like I might be switching away from the Gecko-based browsers....

I am running it on my G4 iBook and it is fast to open and load pages. I like it!

Just placebo effect. The overall speed gain is not noticeable. But, then, I been using Webkit and Omni for awhile.

It did fixed certain loading problem. The new dragging a tab to open a new window is nice.

Just placebo effect. The overall speed gain is not noticeable. Then again, didn't anybody notice that the installer ran a complete system optimization and reboot? All for a simple app install? Nothing like a good zap in the optimizer and a reboot in the rear to get your Mac humping along.

Having said that, my install on a G5 PowerMac prod machine didn't really change much compared to Camino 1.5. Pretty window dressing on a frame to wawawa-land. Will do extensive testing later. I haven't loaded up the Intel bits yet.

I still get the damn beachball during any kind of connection hiccup or slowdown. Why would a slow connection make the menus slower? I've always hated that about Safari, the net speed seems to affect the overall operation of Safari rather than just limited to page rendering.

Some submit buttons are not the jewel type. But, to really take on IE, it needs much better in browser plug in support.

Speak for yourself. I always experienced a perceptible delay in Firefox when clicking on the links to threads in the AVS Forum—not waiting for the page to load, per se, but waiting for what I surmise to be some sort of link-tracking JavaScript code to execute. The response time of Safari 3 beta is noticeably better.
