View Full Version : Bruce Allmighty - Region Free
tlanger71 06-11-07, 05:39 PM Just got the German Blu-ray-Disc of "Bruce Allmighty" (released by Buena Vista) and according to the Cover it is coded for all regions (A,B,C)
Picture quality is very good for a comedy (not "Casino Royale"-Quality though);
don't know about the Video-Codec but it is ad BD50-Disc and I didnt see any compressio artefacts;
Aspect Ratio is 1,78:1 (even though it says 1,85:1 on the cover) and the sound is in DD 5.1 and PCM 5.1;
Extras are identical to the regular DVD-Release
This is interesting since the HD DVD mini review here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=859344) indicates that the Universal release is not all that great.
It would be interesting to compare them for sure!
AaronSCH 06-11-07, 05:50 PM I even like the Blu-ray cover better:

Hope someone can compare this to Universal's transfer.
Great to hear that this will play in US players. May I ask where you bought it? I'd like to place an order too. I love this movie!
I think I will just get the HD DVD version... I do like the cover though... :)
Ferdopa 06-13-07, 09:09 AM The Spanish edition is region "B"... but it runs perfect on a JP ("A") PS3
So it is region free :)
The audio is:
DD 5.1 (Spanish, English, Thai, Portugues/Brazilian anda Southamerica Spanish)
DTS HD master Audio (Spanish)
PCM (English)
Where is this available for order from?
It is going to be available in Australia where I live on the 18th of July.

The cover doesn't even make sense! God is black in the movie! :eek:

But it is from the original poster art, well one of the original posters. :)

Yes it was the original poster, and it's clear it was intended as a joke on the famous painting by Michellangelo, regardless of the choices for the movie itself.
Personally, I think it's a great poster and much better looking than the DVD retail version

Yes, it is a spoof of Michaelangelo's "Creation of Adam."

i see a belly button on adam, arent adam and eve not supposed to have belly butttons since they were created instead of born?
AaronSCH 06-14-07, 12:22 PM Unfortunately Michaelangelo is dead. So you can't really take that up with the artists...sheesh.
Nevr2Big 06-14-07, 09:32 PM Any word on verification whether or not these disks will truely be region free?
I would make my first overseas BR purchase if I knew that either the Aussie or other versions could be played in good ole USA.
Boy I hate to wait for title releases. Good thing US is usually on the front end for releases (gotta have some sympathy for those in later release zones).

Cool. I wonder what else is available onBD over there that is HD-DVD exclusive? I also wonder how long that shipping form that remote country would take to get to the east coast of the US!

I used to order DVDs from EzyDVD and they took anywhere from 5-10 days to arrive here in the States.

I know that, but in the context of the movie it doesn't make sense since God is black.
Dr Kain 06-25-07, 01:20 AM How mcuh is it and where can I buy it fronm?
I wonder if companies do this on purpose, to release American HD DVD exclusives region free on BD elsewhere, but have region locks on movies that are available on BD in America.

That's a strategy that makes sense. :)
