I am interested in getting these and I have a chance to get them on the cheap. Both seem to have features I want. So, which should I get? I plan on getting an Onkyo TX-SR875 and have it pass through the input resolutions through HDMI to either of these scalers and then output the scaler to an Epson Pro Cinema 1080p. I understand that the Onkyo has built in scaling, but I prefer the greater flexibility that these external scalers offer. I also understand that this topic has been addressed before, but I have not seen any clear consensus. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

the lumagen will give you 1080p24 output for stutter free viewing from a 1080i source ie hd or blu-ray . will the leeza do this?

No the Leeza will NOT. do 1080p24,

It does have 48hz output, but it doesn't work very well.

It is best at 1080i60 to 1080p60, great value if you want great de-interlacing only,
Oh yeah, it does not scale PAL very well at all.

So the winner is lumagen !!! [i have one of course ]

I had both. The Lumagen HDP is a better performer.

In my opinion, the Leeza is a better deal just from a monetary standpoint (anyone who wants the specifics can PM me). If I decide to go that route instead of the Lumagen, should I select 1080i upscaling using the Reon-VX onboard the TX-SR875 and just have the Leeza de-interlace?

And also, just to clarify what has been said, the Lumagen can do everything the Leeza can do, just it can accept and output 1080p24 signals and the Leeza cannot.

This information is very time sensitive to me so a quick reply will be greatly appreciated.

Go for the Lumagen,
I will possibly be replacing my HD Leeza with a HDP Pro if I can get it for the right price.


You will find it will be worth the extra money over the HD Leeza.
