I viewd the first and second Pirates films for the first time at a friends house on his 40" HDTV set with no multi channel sound just the tv's speakers using the standard def dvd's.. I have to say that I was somewhat bored by the films. I use a front projecton system with multi channel sound at home. Do you think these Blu-Ray discs with my setup would change a persons opinion of these films? I have read all of the glowing reviews and posts regarding the picture and sound quality and am tempted to purchase to see what I am missing. :)

Well the story don't change because it on BluRay or HD DVD, movies stay the same old...

For people that like those, the DVD of the first was a abobination (DVD wise) so it's a really nice upgrade over..

If you're bored by a movie in 480p, you'll be just as bored watching it in 1080p.

i fell asleep watching part 2 on dvd.

but i dont fall asleep watching it on blu ray. its just adds that much more excitement with the awesome sound and picture. but if you really hate it then nothing is gonna change that.

I turned off part 2 on BD.

Weird. just like Matrix, i prefer the 2nd one to the first one..

Both movies play unbelievably better the second time around, when you know what to expect.

I love these movies, I seen DMC twice in the theater. cant wait for part 3 to come out to BD

I found them, especialy 2, boring. even on dvd. but the sound and to a great extent pq on br made me enjoy them the 2nd and 3rd time around...

1- a totally hot girlfriend (PQ 4.5/5) Tier 007 (totally jaeded and boring on the inside, no good isights available.)

2- a normal looking girlfriend (2.0/3.9?) (great personality good inteligence, with lots of insights.)

watching dvd on a 40" with no surround will make a diff as opposed to watching on blu-ray on a much larger screen with full surround. sometimes the experience makes the movie. it's very likely he found the movie boring b/c with tv sounds he just couldnt get into having gotten used to his home theater.

when i watched the grudge original japanese version at my house on dd5.1 with some friends, the atmosphere was very grabbing and my friends were scared s**tless. when we watched it again at another friend's place with standard tv and tv audio, it wasn't the same at all. there were sounds that ppl were expecting to get scared by and they started bracing for it but when it came they felt nothing.

i think it's very much worth a purchase to get potc1 and 2 on blu-ray, bring those friends of urs over and show em how movies are meant to be seen. cannon fire out of the tv and cannon fire out of dedicated speaker system are completely diff experiences.

NETFLIX OR RENT it

if you think the movie is boring, nothing will change that. seeing it on blu-ray will at the most allow you to play a few of the good action scenes every now and then for eye candy or demo'ing to friends, but there is no way that you will be able to sit through and enjoy the full movie just becuase its on blu-ray.

this is the same thing that hd dvd did for me with king kong. when i first saw it, i thought it was a real let down. then it came free with my xbox hd dvd add on, and since then i have seen the t rex scene about 25 times, but i have never sat down to watch the whole movie again.

if you do feel the need to buy one of the pirates movies, get potc1. although i find part 2 and 3 to be absolutely horrrrrrible, i really enjoyed potc1 and think its a pretty solid blind buy.
