drpstudios 06-12-07, 02:10 AM I just got in my 360 Addon today with matrix trilogy and king kong.
Ive never seen HDDVD til today. Its flat out awesome. I just wish my TV had PC inputs so i could get a better picture.
One question though, on the Matrix discs, why is it so green? My girlfriend and i were sitting here looking at them and wondering what the hell why is it so damn green, I mean everything. I popped in the Original into the Xbox and the picture was normal, not as much green i guess you could say.
Im puzzled? is it supposed to be like this? Thanks.
- Vincent
Dont laugh but if anyone knows how to set up optical audio cables, please PM me, im lost and dont know if i am getting optical sound or not.
HtLurker 06-12-07, 03:40 AM Matrix is suppose to look green. It is how the movie maker want the film to look. You may still want to calibrate your display with a calibration disc or call in a professional like an ISF tech.
/cheers,
jer
wittangamo 06-12-07, 07:16 AM It's not your imagination. Matrix did get greener in the box set. That's the way it looked in the theater.
On the Xbox360 the optical connects to the big plug that hooks up the component cables. If you're getting 5.1 sound from the Xbox, you have the optical hooked up correctly.
MichaelHDDVD 06-12-07, 07:26 AM That green tint in The Matrix trilogy is... well its there.
Have fun with your new HD DVD player :) A few movie recommendations for you to buy/rent
Batman Begins
V for Vendetta
Mission Impossible: III
lovebuzz#836 06-12-07, 09:15 AM Except in Zion and the ship, where it is blue.
mproper 06-12-07, 09:37 AM The original Matrix disc was NOT green.
However, when the trilogy was released, they went back and redid the original with a green tint to match the other two films.
Most likely your old SD Matrix disc is one of the originals (before they redid it). It would be the one in the snapper case, if that helps.

It was green, but it was all done practically in camera. The color correction via digital intermediary format brought about by O Brother Where Art Thou changed the way the other two were done. Then they went back to the original film for the Ultimate box sets.
drpstudios 06-12-07, 01:28 PM damn, are the ultimates still available? this green is kinda annoying

The only way to get rid of the green is to get a what pre-2002 version of Matrix. It wil still be green but not nearly as much as the re-release. It could be worse, think Star Wars or E.T.
TV Casualty 06-12-07, 04:16 PM Welcome aboard, bro. i'll second Michael's suggestions (can't vouch for MI3 but the other two are solid) and add Fearless as well, if you're not adverse to combo discs and like Jet Li stuff.

Director's Intent. It's supposed to be green.
When in the MAtrix world ... it is green.
When in the real world ...it is more blue ... a colder harsher look.

This man speaks truth. It's a stylistic choice, usually achieved in-camera by lighting with unfiltered flourescents and shooting daylight balanced stock, if I remember correctly (disclaimer: I am not a cinematographer). For a similar look, check out Fight Club (sadly not on HD DVD, but not on Blu-ray either :p ).

From what i read none of the big name movies, save matrix and pirates, has come out.
The only thing i see really from sony ill be upset not having is the Sony Classic Pictures. Mainly the foreign movies (Curse of the Golden Flower, etc.) It was gorgeous in an upconversion with the HD player tonite. Sigh. When i ihave money i guess.

Yeah, I hear ya. I hope they don't handle worldwide distro for all of these films. If not, we may see much of their catalog as imports...eventually...if we're lucky.
Keep an eye on the imports thread.
Watch the extras in the box set and see how the movie was made... Some great stuff in there, I'm still going through it all

Imported HD DVD movies? if so then yes, there is no region coding for HD DVD so all imported titles will work on all players
Breach is $27.95 on amazon with free shipping.

drpstudios 06-13-07, 02:36 PM great, i think ill hit that up soon. Is there a list of movies that are supposed to be BD "exclusive" but by import we can get?
Xploited Cinema sells imported HD DVD titles. They currently list 36 titles to purchase from.
The only one I have ordered so far was Harry Potter and it was well worth it for quality and speed of delivery from this place. As I said though this is the only one Ive imported so maybe someone else can make a better suggestion

evolver 06-13-07, 03:08 PM Just remember that for standard DVD playback, it's still region coded.
For HD imports, you may need to do a little research as there are a couple of potential pifalls with some titles (like no English subs, or forced non-English subs on English tracks).
Or just go to xploited like TomsHT said. ;)
For all my talk of imports this, region-free that, I actualy still haven't bought any! :o Probably later this month (but then there's Lebowski on the 26th, and...man, this stuff adds up quicker than you'd think :( ).
Also, check out the import thread linked in my sig.
Topweasel 06-13-07, 03:27 PM Man, I can't see myself spending $40.00 on a movie until I have nothing left to order here but I have been at a consistent 10 pre-orders with another 10 on my must buy list for like 5 months now. I would need HD-DVD to die for me to actually be in a position at this point to start importing.

Also, check the thread that is currently on page 1 of this same forum - it looks like some/all Best Buy stores have it stickered at $24.99. After tax it's not a huge difference, but at least there's no waiting.

If you don't mind subtitles, I can highly recommend "The Brotherhood of the Wolf." Terrific French monster/action flick, great transfer.
drpstudios 06-13-07, 09:48 PM i could care less about subs its the girlfriend that does. I had to switch the audio in Curse of the Golden Flower to English so she could enjoy it
compson 06-13-07, 09:52 PM Matrix is supposed to be green. On the other hand, a lot of displays oversaturate green, so the disc will look really, really green.
