Paramount Home Entertainment has announced 'The Jack Ryan Collection,' 'Face/Off (Special Collector's Edition),' 'Disturbia' starring Shia LaBeouf, and 'Top Gun' are all coming to HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc in the coming months.

While Paramount has not released any disc information for these titles, we can tell you 'Disturbia' will be released on August 7, 'Face/Off (Special Collector's Edition)' will span two discs and be released September 11, 'The Jack Ryan Collection' will be released September 25, and 'Top Gun' will take off on October 2.

'The Jack Ryan Collection' will include 'The Sum of All Fears,' 'Clear and Present Danger,' 'The Hunt For Red October,' and 'Patriot Games.'

On the speculation front, Paramount has announced 'Saturday Night Fever' on DVD will be available September 18. Since the studio has already confirmed a high definition release, don't be surprised if it doesn't hit stores the same date.

IMO, this is the greatest single announcement of different titles that I've seen so far for HD DVD. I'd say the BD one was when they announced The Rock, Con Air, etc at the same time.

NOTE: yes, "action" is my favorite genre

If Paramount doesn't start supporting lossless, especially with these titles, I will be waiting for them to double-dip before I purchase.

I'll wait until the Jack Ryan Collection is available as separate disks (like Mission: Impossible). The only 2 I want are The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games.

Face/Off is SO mine in Sept. :D

This is GREAT news. Glad to hear about more coming from Paramount. Coupled with the stuff announced from Warner yesterday (Deliverance), looks like it's going to be a very interesting Fall indeed. I thought I was going to have a bit of a break from buying movies, silly me! Top Gun, Face/Off, and the Jack Ryan Collection are musts for me. Maybe even Disturbia as a blind buy. I'd need to read up on it a bit.

From some of the talk in the Blu-Ray section and other forums, it seems that Paramount is partial towards DTS-HD MA and will eventually use this codec. It's lossless, but we need a player that will decode the damn thing.

DVD Talk has a member who works for Paramount and he said Top Gun should be the company's first title with lossless audio. HD DVD will get TrueHD and the BD will get a PCM track. I'm buyin' all of these.

So I guess people in the Blu-Ray section misquoted that Paramount insider when they said Paramount favors DTS-HD MA?

The DVD was at least anamorphic at a time when Paramount were still persisting with non-anamorphic transfers, but yeah, it was piss-poor. So grainy. I actually preferred the laserdisc edition, both for picture and sound. Hopefully the HD-DVD will lay that disc to rest!

And Top Gun + Jack Ryan too? Hells. Yeah.

YowZA!! Kudos to Paramount for Top Gun! We all love it, despite the gawd awful line from Kelly M. to Tom C., "I couldn't let them see...that I had fallen for you." I laugh my keester off every time I hear her say it, but the movie delivers in spades. I'm biased though; I used to fly military, and met my wife-to-be when she was a lifeguard at the O'Club pool. :)

"I feel the need; the need for..." a very fun screening party this fall! :D

Another for top gun here. That will go good with the Patriot (blu ray, sorry I am format neutral) and 300 when they come out, and now if we could just get LOR and Gladiator in HD I would be content for a while

I can't wait to see this in HD. Even in SD you can clearly see the faces of the stuntmen doing the boat chase scenes at the end. This will be even more comical on HD-DVD. I love this movie, but you have to take it for what it is. A comedy action. :)

Sum of All Fears
Clear and Present Danger
Patriot Games
and The Hunt For Red October

Wow I just looked and found out what was in that Jack Ryan collection... I'd buy everyone of these individually.

I wonder if they take into consideration all these box sets when there figuring out attach rates and software sales etc... I know the Matrix collection got a rough deal comparing two indiviual pirate sales togther but then basing that against the sales of 3 movies and counting it as one.

I think Disburbia is the only one I have not hear of, the other 6 I will pre-order and look up the seventh

Great flicks!

I remember seeing Clear and Present Danger in the theaters and the opening sequence with the Coast Guard cutter bouncing on the waves of the ocean...it was amazing.

As for Top Gun. Cool.

While we are waiting...some thoughts on "Top Gun"....

I hope they don't pull a Warner and sell these discs separately. Hunt for Red October is one my favorites - the rest I don't really care for.

Patriot Games maybe... but really, the only Jack Ryan is Alec Baldwin. :)

That's only available in the Special "Lucas/Speilberg" Edition. They also take out the missiles and replace them with marshmallows.

Count me in for Top Gun. My wife and I love that movie and here's hoping its in TrueHD!

I have the BD version of Face/Off (Japan edition) released by BVHE.
It has uncompressed PCM and DD tracks with English Menus.
I got so tempted and bought it. One of my happiest buy so far.
Hope that the HD DVD release does well.

I will have to preorder the JR collection. I have been consistently impressed with the PQ on all of the Paramount releases so far. I just watched Disturbia last night, it was a really good movie, love DJ Caruso's work. As for them not going lossless on their audio tracks, I think it's not as big of a deal as most make it out to be. I know on Shooter and Disturbia they have given us some high quality DD+ tracks and all of the special features in 1080p, not a bad trade off if you ask me.

Have any specs been announced for the Jack Ryan collection? I can't find any on a google search and I was wondering if I missed it.
