JR Bryce 06-12-07, 02:18 PM Underworld and Silent Hill are definite buys for me. Man, the past few days we've gotten some major blu-ray exclusives announced in other territories. I hope there will be more to come.
I need to pick up Evolution and I will definitely be getting this one as well!
FrancescoP 06-12-07, 02:37 PM Great news! Any info on the audio tracks and the subs?
I'll definitely get Underworld but enough with the extended cuts already. Crap was cut from the movie for a reason. It is not a selling feature for me. It's actually a deterrent for me but unfortunately only one version ever gets released.
Snickering Hound 06-12-07, 02:52 PM I need to pick up Evolution and I will definitely be getting this one as well!
Same here, just waiting for word on if there are forced subtitles.
jus10 said 06-12-07, 02:54 PM i didnt really like silent hill, but i'll be buying it just to say i have it on hd-dvd :)

Concorde Home Entertainment starts at the beginning of the international radio exhibition of this year into the NEXT gene market. How the resident of Munich communicates Independent, five catalog titles appear both on Blu ray and on hp DVD on 31 August: “Lara Croft - Tomb Raider”, the ungeschnittene US cinema version of “we were heroes”, the Games adaptation “silent Hill”, Terry Gilliams “12 Monkeys” as well as the horror film “Underworld” in the FSK-18-Version. For the technical conversion Sonopress and the Czech Encodingstudio have responsibility digitally media production. With these first publications on hp DVD and Blu ray the Marktpotenzial of the two DVD Nachfolgeformate is to be plumbed, is called it from offerer side in the attention-strong surrounding field of the IFA. On basis of the results Concorde wants the novelty publications for the spring according to 2008 to then plan and announce. “It is good that the hp market into Germany still in this year into rolling comes and are ready the consumers to take over the qualitative increase in value and to accept a higher price level! The time is perfectly, together with the proven production team Sonopress and DMP, in this market to reüssieren”, like that a managing director Michael Ivert.
Underworld and Silent Hill for me :D
I wonder If the "Silent Hill" transfer will be better than that BD version :D
evolver 06-12-07, 03:00 PM Same here, just waiting for word on if there are forced subtitles.
Good point. Maybe good news either way: doesn't Filmax in Spain have the rights to this as well? Could they be working off of the same transfer?
HomerJay 06-12-07, 03:08 PM Underworld and Silent Hill for me... :)
Region freedom is wonderful!... :D
FrancescoP 06-12-07, 03:12 PM Same here, just waiting for word on if there are forced subtitles.
I was wondering the same. Maybe somebody should e-mail Concorde Home Entertainment and ask them about audio tracks and subtitles on those titles...
Digital Man5 06-12-07, 06:12 PM Man, I still can't make myself pay $35 for Evolution and now part 1 is coming! I gotta save some dough!
Megalith 06-12-07, 07:07 PM I hate getting foreign editions of domestic films, but...
Underworld and Silent Hill has NO CHANCE of seeing an HD-DVD release in the States unless they win the war, right?

Right, they're both Sony.
Now if someone can just talk some Euro studio into releasing Resident Evil...
I read on another forum that this company may also be releasing Ghost Rider some time in September. Can anyone confirm this rumor?
Edit: My bad. It's a French company that is supposedly releasing it on HD DVD.
DaGamePimp 06-12-07, 07:33 PM Is it certain that these will have english 5.1 audio tracks ?

One of my all time favorites. :)
I have to see how much better it is than my overused Superbiy version.
Cost is no object. this one is so bought. :D
JeffNebraska 06-12-07, 08:21 PM I'm all about this title also.
I don't know why it doesn't appear to be coming out domestically on Bluray, but I'll grab this and the Bluray of Evolution, and I'll be ridin' tall in the saddle.
GmanAVS 06-12-07, 09:02 PM ok, so what are the added scenes to make this a FSK 18 ?
Translated :) I wonder If the "Silent Hill" transfer will be better than that BD version :D
Underworld Evolutions PQ advantage goes to HD DVD no doubt about that. We will just have to wait and see for Silent Hill.
mrwilson 06-12-07, 10:38 PM Silent Hill could look better. The R3HK DVD PQ was way better than the R1 release.
Germany almost always has optional German subtitles (if any are included at all) - the only exception I can think of was the X-Rated Kult release of The Alcove which has forced German subs on the English track. Both France and Spain have been big on 'forced' subtitles on bi-lingual releases for years on DVD, so if past track records mean anything the subs will probably be optional. Of course, these things are almost always contractual and on a per-title basis, so... eh, we'll see.
Basically, Germany has an All Ages rating (FSK0), FSK6, FSK12, FSK16 and FSK18 ratings with the number noting what age the film is appropriate for. If a film is denied an FSK18 - for issues ranging from glorification of violence or pornographic content - it's given an SPIO/JK rating (which means it's not considered obscene)... but can still be banned later. Unrated DVD's don't really exist in Germany, and are only done by independent labels releasing banned movies "Only for sale in Austria, Belgium and Switzerland" anyway. Both FSK18 and SPIO/JK are very difficult to find in stores, and are virtually unavailable for rental.
Anyway, the FSK16 version of Underworld appears to be the same as the PG-13 original theatrical cut. You can find a detailed comparison (in German) between the two here:
http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=1628
The FSK18 version is just the same as the unrated version in the US.
Rathbone 06-13-07, 03:27 AM The extended cut had been rated FSK18 because the distributor Concorde wanted to. If both versions, theatrical and extended would have been rated FSK 16, most people would have bought the cheap theatrical version. So they had the "hey, it's FSK 18, there is more violence"-effect, altough the extended cut is not more violent at all.
Silent Hill didn't go over well with the professional critics, but I actually thought it was a pretty good horror movie. I will definitely pick this one up. I liked Radha Mitchell in Pitch Black too.
pedra12 06-13-07, 08:11 AM WOW! Very cool. I'll be picking up Underworld and Silent Hill. :)

Which studio is going to release it and when? :)
Matt_Stevens 06-13-07, 11:15 AM I already have Res Evil on HD-DVD. Why do you think I won't update my HD-A1 firmware to 2.2? It won't play home-made discs!!
I don't like the extended cut of UNDERWORLD. I prefer the theatrical. :(
maingon 06-13-07, 11:53 AM i will get Underworld, I love these flicks, the pq on Underworld Evolution is amazing cant wait for this one.
evolver 06-13-07, 12:48 PM http://www.mindspring.com/~zyber/residentevil.jpg
Remember, "It's pronounced YO-vovich!"
Do not piss her off. :p
SteroMAdMAn 06-13-07, 12:57 PM Same here, just waiting for word on if there are forced subtitles.
On Evolution? No.
The opening scene is jaw dropping PQ though! I hit chapter back 2x to watch it over again
Which studio is going to release it and when? :)
What you see in my photo is the Japanese HD DVD that was an exclusive pack-in with the HD-XA1 player in that country. The case art is a custom job.
There's another thread in this forum claiming that the movie will be released on HD DVD in Germany.
