Since I live in a canyon with no other lights around, my room is quite dark at night but it does have a white ceiling and only a moderately dark floor and side walls.

I have read it takes a bat cave to really appreciate the difference between projectors such as an RS1 and Pearl.

Will my room have a levelling effect and make the difference between the two indistinguishable? For me are lumens more important that contrast ratio? For me is a dynamic iris an advantage over a fixed iris?

Currently I am using a JVC G15 on an 8' 1.3 Studiotek with anamorphic lens. Colors are excellent but I have yet to see anything that approaches black. Will I see an improvement with a Pearl because of its greater contrast ratio?

Thanks.

Yes, you will see some. I speculate this because the RS-1 is pretty bright for an HT projector and the difference in black level between it and yours is substantial. But late at night, you will be amazed (according to JimmyR).

Remember the room will have negative impacts on ANSI, but it's not going to have any impact on on/off CR (assuming that there is no ambient light).

So yes, you would see a large improvement, in fact the same amount of improvement as in a bat cave (all black room). But differences in projector ANSI CR would be diminished since the total system ANSI would be lower in your room because your room ANSI performance is lower.
