View Full Version : Advice for switcher/scaler for our setup

I am putting a system together for our conference room. I believe what we need is a matrix switcher, something that will let us connect a variety of sources, to run to our projector. Cost is not a major obstacle, as we are wanting the conference room to be as professional as possible.

I have demo'd a DVDO product before and was settling on a VP50, until I realized that the main output is HDMI. Our projector has everything EXCEPT HDMI of course. It's an InFocus 7205, it has DVI and component.

The cable distance is going to be around 30 feet. (We've already got VGA and S-Video cables run from our old projector) I haven't bought any cables yet so I'm open to the best quality solution possible.

Our sources are several game systems, PS3, Xbox 360, wii, a PC with DVI, a DVD player. Audio will be split off to a receiver.

Should I focus on getting a switcher with component output? Or go with HDMI and convert it to input to the projector... (not logical to me, and I see a lot of people don't love HDMI on these forums) What would you suggest?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Chris

Get an HDMI cable and a HDMI->DVI adapter from monoprice. (so you can upgrade projectors later and have a more current cable). I use a VP50 that way, works fine.

Thanks Dono. And I actually feel better about that scenario now that I found something like:

Cables To Go 33' SonicWave™ HDMI™ to DVI™ Digital Video Interconnect - I wanted to stay away from adapters, but they make single cables!

Now my issue is I think I will need more than 2 component inputs. We have to have an Xbox 360, an Xbox 360 developer kit, and a Wii connected for starters.

Is there any product that will do what the VP 50 does with a few more component inputs?

Thanks
chris

You can use the RGB input for component too so that's 3, and just get a switch if you need more (a receiver with a component switch built-in would also work)
