Hello, this is my first post here, so if it is in the wrong forum, I apologize in advance.
I just purchased a Mitsubishi HD1000 after all the glowing reviews I've heard. It's on the way now, and I'm planning what I'm going to be doing with it. :)
I'm renting a townhouse for the summer, and we have an unfinished basement. Since I'm only here for 3 months, I don't intend to do anything elaborate, expensive, or permanent.
My ideas:
- Paint the wall with Behr Silverscreen
- Ceiling mount the PJ
Since we have an unfinished basement, the floor beams of the level above are exposed. The PJ is coming with a Vogels EPC 4010 universal mount, which apparently has a 6.5CM drop on it.
Questions:
1) Can I safely screw the mount pole directly into the bottom of a floor beam and be done with it?
2) There are some heating ducts running along the ceiling in the room I'll be putting the projector in, and they will be between the PJ and the screen. In the event that they are low enough to block the PJ's line of sight (which they may be, by just a few centimeters) how can I easily drop the PJ down a few extra inches?
As I said, I'm only here for 3 more months, so I don't want to use an 'official' (ie: pricey) option like buying a Vogels pole meant for this model mount (primarily because when I move, the next place I live in probably won't require it, and that kind of thing is hard to sell second-hand). Also, we have a rather hilarious frat-house thing going on, so I don't care if it looks ugly or sloppy -- so long as it's secure and gives a good picture!
I was thinking I could just buy a 2x4, screw that across a few of the floor beams, and then mount the projector to that, just to give it an extra inch of drop. Is this safe to do? I would think so, but I know nothing about what the weight distribution is like, or how touchy the mount will be.
A picture showing the area where I plan to mount the PJ:

The area I will be painting:

The room is 11'4" from the left wall to the right wall.
Comments?
