I have a Sim2 HT 5000 and recently had it calibrated. Funny but there is no tint control. There is only color. According to the calibrator, my gray scale is set properly. I see alot of green. Unfortunately, we couldn't get into the calibrator's menu while he was there but later I was able to get into it. It has a section that allows for the individual saturation of RGB. It also can change the color of RGB. When I mentioned this to the calibrator, he said that will only affect the gray scale which is already good. He feels it is a problem with the color decoder. Hopefully, it can be fixed but is this correct? I have resorted to turning the green saturation down to the minimum value and it is a little better.

Any input?

Mitch,
I'm sorry to step in here obviously I'm no calibrator. Cineramax mentioned a green cast on the HT 5000 he saw as well. Interestingly, the one I had and looked at for days had no green tint. In fact, after watching it my stack looked green in comparison.

The gray scale was great and even looking at black and white HD material like HD of Sin City and Casablanca it looked gorgeous. Now we both know the poop about the color coordinate adjustments but this would be unnecessary for gray scale.

Do you see the primary green in green objects being excessively saturated ?

It's impossible to know what exactly you are talking about without more information. When you say "I see a lot of green" that could be because

- the gray scale is tilted towards green at some point
- the green primary is oversaturated
- the color decoder is pushing green

There is no way to know which of these is causing the problem without direct measurement. You really shouldn't be making adjustments on your own (I don't even know what you mean by the "green saturation" control). Get your calibrator back in to resolve this.

Since you took the time and money to have this unit ISF'ed and you are not happy.....

Why not call SIM and get their thoughts on what may be going on. They may be able to offer suggestions to your calibrator or determine the unit is broke and needs repair.

We see green the best and as such are the most sensitive to it. It can be really annoying when our images are even the slightest bit green. I would not settle for a wrong color picture in any display device. Talk to SIM and I am sure there will be a solution for your green color issue.

There may be one reason for this color issue. Your calibrator may need to have his colorometer re-calibrated. Did he use an optical comparator to verify that the colorometer was spot on? Is your ISF guy at all colorblind? If he is then he is totally dependant on the colorometer and the reason why it must be of excellent quality and within calibration certification date. Just guesses but something to consider.

Please continue to post here as to the out come or solution that comes from your discussing it with SIM.

The fact your calibrator couldnt access full cal menu (some of which has only been recently opened up) but you could seems very odd. His statement that the cal menu will only affect gray scale is not the case. Sound like he doesnt want to have to come back and do what he should have in the first place.

With a machine of the 5ks value, don't use a cowboy...get the sherrif.I certainly would not let any old douche bag loose on a PJ costing $50000. Was it even an ISF cal? I've seen one unit with green push and it can be removed with minimal effort.
