View Full Version : "Daddy's little gilrs" listed on the box as being 7.1 pcm
Brian27 06-13-07, 03:49 PM Anyone see this movie on blu-ray yet and notice? Its not like "the decent" or "Crank" and showing 6.1 pcm...It actually is listed as 7.1...I wonder why this type of movie gets a 7.1 soundtrack but the action type movies are left without.
Take care,
Brian
I watched it yesterday and 7.1 is one of the options on the menu. Sound is great, as is the picture. Turned out to be a pretty good movie.
cnickersonjr 06-13-07, 07:42 PM Great, I'm about to order this one. I love Tyler perry's movies. Hope they put his other movie on BD.
the49ola 06-13-07, 09:10 PM I as well was totally surprised to see this listed as one of the available sound options. Saw the movie in the theater and was pleasantly surprised with the story. I also picked up Ghost Rider and noticed it had PCM and Dolby True HD listed.

Good...I am going to watch the movie tonight...I watched "Ghost rider" yesterday and I dont understand the point of having a "TrueHD" AND a "PCM" track...they sound the same to me.
Take care,
Brian

That does not make me warm and fuzzy after moving all my equipment and hooking up all my 5.1 analog cables to the BDP S1 while waiting on a "TrueHD" disc to arrive in the mail.

the point is not all blu-ray players can do TrueHD yet. There is 50 gigs to play with. Let them max it out with anything they want to please the early adopters.

Thats exactly why they should stick with "PCM"...when "TrueHD" is decoded in the player its output as "PCM" anyway...Also, from what I read on Dolby's site, very few, if any disks will allow the HD audio signal to be decoded outside the player...such as in a receiver. But hey..I'm with ya on that...use up the extra space, it wont hurt anything.

Every format (DD, DTS, DD THD, etc..)that's decoded is decoded into PCM.
As we have been discussing elsewhere, there are advantages to using lossless vs. PCM other than space, such as compatibility, mixing, etc....
For example, on this 7.1 disc (which I assume will be 6.1 with two identical surround back channels which were done in remastering for home) if your receiver only receives 5.1 PCM the other two channels are getting thrown away.. whereas DTHD is able to downmix into a compatible 5.1 track...
Off topic, but I would surmise that this is the reason the POTC PCM tracks are 5.1, and if you want the EX encoded surround info, you can engage PLIIx to decode it... no harm, no foul, and I am a big believer that matrix decoded 7.1 should be pretty hard to distinguish from discrete 7.1.

The PCM track on Ghost is 16 bit
The TrueHD track on Ghost is 20 bit

The box says 7.1 pcm which I think is actually 7.1 discrete channels this time unlike the other Lionsgate films that were listed as 6.1 pcm, "the Decent" and "Crank", but the PS3 was showing that they were 7.1. All 3 of the above movies were all by Lionsgate.

I'll have to check with the Mi Casa guys.. but my moneys still on the two back surround tracks being the same :)
I'm surprised I can't find Daddy's Little Girl (Blu-ray) on Amazon.
