I'm thinking of getting sketches done to help with my ht setup.

I want to pick all AV equipment but are there people who will help design room layout, calculations, and acosutics? and if so about how much does it cost?

It can cost up to $4000 to have a super pro visit your house and design your theater. I don't have much experience with the pros because I can't afford them. :) I have spoke with Bryan Pape and he was very helpful. You might ask him how much it would cost, but be sure to be specific (eg, do you want him there in person, exactly what are the points you want provided, etc). "BPape" on this board or: info@sensiblesoundsolutions.com

If you want to do sketchs yourself, try Google SketchUp (http://sketchup.google.com/). It is utterly amazing. There are great video tutorials (http://sketchup.google.com/gsu5vtvideos.html) on how to use it. It takes about 2-3 hours of playing to learn enough to be useful, but after that it is a lot of fun. Here are a bunch of sketches I've done for my theater in progress...

They have really helped in planning! The theater.skp file is the SketchUp file for my theater. You could download and steal (copy/paste) any models you want (the door, electrical outlets, PJ, couches, etc).

You might talk to AVS'er Reaper. He's done a fair number of renders.

When they do sketches do they include all calculations also like screen height and seating distance and height?

also what room size is considered a small HT? 15x15? what's a nice size HT room?

i appreciate all your help. angelo

Why not ask them? I'm sure anyone who does renders and/or design will be happy to answer your questions. That's their business, after all.

It sounds like you are not looking for someone to do renders, most on here do their own. But it sounds like you want someone to basically design your theater for you. if that is the case it will cost a fair amount, there are some here that do this Dennis Erskine for one. Look them up and contact them directly.

Nice! How long did that take you?

Thanks! It has taken quite a while, I am still updating it! No new screenshots, but you can useSketchUp to open theater.skp here...

Took 2-3 hours to learn the tool enough to get started, then maybe 5 hours to get the room done well. I'm much better now and could do it faster. I've spent way more time on it than that though, most of the time is adding more and more detail, figuring out where sconces go, where wiring should be run, etc. I have a lot of fun though!
