I read that some BluRay disks have DTS-MA tracks on them, but I don't know of any players that decode that.
I'll get my first BluRay player today and was wondering what is the output from the player if you select DTS-MA?

There are no players that do it. I continue to be amazed.

I'm getting the Sony S300 and it should be on my doorstep very soon.
I see the references to DTS Core, exactly what is that? Just plain old DTS? and is it more than 2-channel?

So we have at least one studio that provides a codec that isn't supported, and never has been by Blu Ray players?
Seems rather idiotic, doesn't it?

Welcome to the wonderful world that is DTS. It feels just like 1997 again, or was it 1998? 1999? I don't remember when they got this crap together on DVD at this point.
BTW, I believe the only studio that has even released title with DTS HD MA is Fox... Everyone else has opted for either PCM or DD.

DTS Core is lossy DTS@1.5 mbps and it is multichannel on the discs that have their audio tracks encoded with DTS HD MA(Only fox at this point)

I'm not 100% but I am pretty sure that Panasonic's Player will do DTS-MA through a firmware update....

Uh, huh! :)
You know, I remember when things were simpler and things worked the way the books said. When stereo (yeah, I'm that old!) came out, all of it worked just fine.
Now we've got HiDef DVD players that don't always do what they say they will do and A/V Receivers that the mfg claims work fine with LPCM from HDDVD but not from BluRay. But of course, they don't say that in their marketing stuff, nor does their operator manuals talk about it. Heck for the most part they gloss over LPCM so much that you really don't know what the heck they do with it.
Sigh....
Where is that good ol' horse and buggy when you need it? :p

While Fox is taking their extended summer vacation from any new high def releases, I hope they re-examine using an audio codec no consumer has ever been able to hear in full resolution, with no solution in sight. :(
