If I get an HD DVD player that outputs HDMI and then use an adapter or cable to convert to DVI which my TV requires, will the 1080p signal still pass through as is? Yes my TV is 1080P.

All I need is the picture this way, the audio I will send ADAT from the player into the receiver.

And yes you can get HDMI to DVI cables (no converter required), This is presuming your TV's DVI input is HDCP enabled.

Also FYI, 1080i carries the full information os a 1080p stream anyway so as long as your TV deinterlaces the video correctly you'll still get full qaulity.

I don't have the player yet, but I was thinking of getting the Toshiba HD-XA2.

I know I can get the cables, I just wanted to make sure that converting in this way does not affect the quality of the 1080p signal, and I'm not sure if you answered that or not... :confused:

I don't know if my TV's DVI is HDCP - I have a Westinghouse LVM-37W1.

Your TV's DVI does support HDCP--all the Westy's do (I have the 37w3). And the signal is unaffected. HDMI and DVI are identical and interchangeable with the exception that DVI chipsets do not support sound (though the cables are capable of carrying it).
