Problem is, it's from Paramount, so yeah, basically no lossless audio :(
At least damn near no chance for lossless audio.

Well it has been pretty much confirmed that Paramount are doing PCM for the Jack Ryan boxset and Top Gun. Why not for Face/Off?

As I mentioned in another thread, the source is extremely reliable. He has announced things in the past that haven't officially surfaced until months later. He hasn't said anything about Face/Off, but the Top Gun and Jack Ryan collection BDs will have PCM tracks.

Don't worry. The Top Gun BD will have a PCM track. Just about no one here believes it, but it will.

Freaking unbelievable, a 2-disc set and no lossless audio. Paramount really needs a crash course on how to do proper BD presentation.

Agreed. They shouldn't be wasting time worrying about extra features when they can't even get the movie's presentation correct. It's time Paramount wakes up and provides lossless audio on all their BDs.

What is lossless audio and what is the difference? Everyone is always complaining about it and I have no idea what it means?

Audio that is transparent from the master. Anything else is lossy which means its different from the master and may come close to but not sound completely the same as the original master. There is some information loss usually on the low end and high end.

Just compare one song of an mp3 to the same song on a DVD-A or SACD and you will see a huge difference.

Im not big on the technicalities of this stuff. I just am a huge movie fan and I want my movies to look and sound as best as possible. I dont care how that happens.

Believe, I doubt you would notice much difference. I'm one of those people who can't tell much of a difference beyond DD, which is good enough for me.

If you can do some feedback with your source would you ask them to do master grade 24/48 PCM like Disney does? Also, will Top Gun get a 6.1 discrete PCM mix since they created one specifically for the last DVD?

Thank you!

This is probably the only movie that Travolta doesn't actually suck in, so I'll definitely be pickingthis one up.

I think the reason Paramount went with 2 discs is that the Japanese version is released by Disney, which happens to have South East Asian rights as well. As you may know, the Japanese version has 5.1 PCM and the same region as the US.

have you seen pulp fiction?

do we know for certain yet if the paramount release here will have pcm?

I didn't like Pulp Fiction. I was bored. My brother kept telling me I must watch it for like 2 years, and then when I finally did, I said, "This is it? This is boring."

The only Tarantino movie I really like is Jackie Brown, and Reservoir Dogs was somewhat interesting, but I won't buy the current BR on the market for that one.

That sure means there are all kinds of different tastes, although good, most people I know (myself included) find Jackie Brown Tarantino's only boring movie :D

Based on very, very recent news, as well as Paramount's latest Blu-ray releases, I think there's a good chance that the Blu-ray version will be encoded in AVC MPEG-4 (Paramounts releases are encoded by Sony) and have lossless audio.

We have to wait and see though.

From the Paramount lossless audio thread:

Not only will many, if not all, distant future Paramount BD releases probably have a PCM track, but they will likely be in full bit depth as well. For instance, a Paramount insider confirmed that Top Gun's PCM track will be 48 kHz/24-bit.

That highlighted part concerns me very much

Nothing to worry about, Alex. Top Gun is due 02.10.07 - if this is the "distant future" I can live with it...

Thanks TheLion, ;)

I sure hope that's the correct interpretation. I was thinking more like Top Gun would be an exception and the lossless for all titles would only happen in the distant future :D

I got my fingers crossed, but still a little worried. :p
