just have a few questions im having a hard time tracking down the answers to.these are not the typical questions since they arent picture related.

1140v 5070 non-pq

1. Speaker performance.
a. how do the 1140 speakers compare to the 5070s?
b. are they made and powered identically only differing by being in two parts rather than one?
c. does the separation of the two on the elite help with imaging at all?
d how well do they perform regarding speech and the like?

2. pc input.
a. pio says its different processing, others say its the same. will i see the same amount of shearing or less while running a pc game on the 1140?
b. the 5070 does not have dot by dot for pc while the elite does for 1360x768, is this correct?

and for those in the know (ie actual experience), how is the performance of the new 5080's audio to that of the elite 1140?

thanks

Putting a lot of thought into tv speakers huh?

The Elite speakers are better. The speakers perform decently on both sets, but after all, they are just tv speakers. You want better sound, go with an external 7.1 setup.

Both the 5070 and 1140 allow dot-by-dot through the PC input. You can use 1024 x 768 or 1360 x 768 (also some lower resolutions) on both sets. Picture adjusment for the PC input givs less adjustment than the other inputs, but how much adjustment/calibration is really needed for a PC image?

The 8Gs are supposed to have beefed up the audio. Read the 8G thread for more info.

jeff,

it may seem as though im placing too much of an emphasis on the speakers, but i just moved in to a studio and its tiny.

i do already have a quality 5.1 set-up that has served me very well for years, 12" energy sub and center channel with psb 4T's for the surrounds powered by a denon reciever.

people couldnt understand why i would watch crappy movies and still enjoy them (ie fastnfurious) until they learned that films are also listened to not just watched.

in any case, my dedicated movie room is gone and now i need to plan accordingly. and, while giving the 5070 a test run i discovered a few things. 1. having a sub output on a tv does wonders for even ordinary television content. 2. if the tv speakers are ok, my sub does enough to make it enjoyable even without my tower surrounds. plus, while reviewing the hulk on the 5070, my gf said she heard me all the way down the hall, and thats just with the built in speakers. so theres no shot ill be hearing my psb's anytime soon.

i did read the 8g thread, along with others, but "saying" its beefed up doesnt help. i was hoping for some actual "ears on" experience.

thanks for the help.

I think I got the answer to this.

I have a Pioneer Elite 1140HD and I had to redo my entire living room for it. In the process I figured that replace the receiver but due to all my time being eaten up with other things I haven't done so yet. That I haven't figured out what to get atm as alot of receivers do alot of extra processing that my elite could probably do better. But anyways this TV has a Sub output so I simply hookedup my infiniti sub to my TV and have been completely happy with my results. The bass management is great and just watching movies with the front speakers and sub has been great. A full Dolby surrond system will ofcourse soudn better but at my home sometimes all we want to do is turn on the TV and be done.
