I saw two versions of the Ghostrider commercial tonight, and I noticed something I thought was interesting while watching...

The first commercial I saw, the ending jumped out at me because it said...
"ONLY ON BLU-RAY DISC"

The second commercial I saw said...
"ON DVD and BLU-RAY DISC"

I only thought this was interesting because the first commercial almost seemed as if it was trying to lead into the misconception that it was on Blu-Ray only and not on standard DVD at all...

But then I saw the second commercial and since it was different I threw all thoughts of conspiracy out the window. It still seemed like they may have been taking a shot at at least making the DVD crowd question if it was "only" available on Blu-Ray and if they might have to start looking into Blu-Ray if they want to continue to have new titles?

As an extended thought, could a studio like Sony take a gamble and start releasing it's new releases earlier on Blu-Ray than on DVD and how would that impact the market? Would that hurt their sales too much, or would it entice the general public into seeing what the hubbub was all about?

Note: When I mention DVD I am talking about SD-DVD.

I saw a Ghost Rider on Blu-ray ad when reading the latest Buffy Season 8 comic which was surprising. Sony are really going all out to sell this one.. probably cause they know it sucks. :)

I work at wal-mart in electronics. our first blu-ray dvd our store has received is ghostrider. so far i had 3 customers come in first asking if we carry blu-ray, second soley asking for ghostrider. i bought one copy and sold a few more. I only recommend blu-ray to my customers. not one customer has asked if we carry hd-dvd. maybe that doesn't mean much, maybe it does. Me thinks ghostrider will be another solid seller for blu and sd-dvd.

I've seen an ad for this a few times on TV. It's almost divided into 2 different sections- the first section says "available on 2-disc DVD" and the second says "available on Blu-ray disc, DVD, and PSP" (in that order). I loved seeing Blu-ray disc come before DVD, something I've never seen in an ad before. It seems like Sony is the only studio that actually cares about HD sales.

I've seen a few Disney and Fox ads where they put Blu-ray ahead of DVD in their list of formats. All of the commercials should be like that. Make DVD seem like it's a second-tier item.

I saw that commercial, but you're missing something. That commercial ACTUALLY says, "Available in HD only on Blu-Ray disc." It was more of a slam on HD-DVD rather than an absence of DVD.
