Hi,
I found a mis-convergence problem of Sony VW50. It occurs mainly on the top left part of the picture. There is green color shift on the left and red color shift on the right of white text or lines. Is it defective or actually normal to have such little mis-convergence?
Play with the Focus control to get the most balance convergence as there maybe subtle focal length difference between the R/G/B panels.
In the end, there will always some mis-convergence on a 3-panels projector as the actual panel with all the 1920x1080 dots are just slightly bigger than half inch while the projection image is usually larger than 100"! The best we can do is to actually check the projection image on screen in store, before paying the $$$.
regards,
Li On
If you have the ability to mount the projector in a different location to change the zoom, you can check to see if the mis-convergence due to lens chromatic aberration (CA) decreases towards the middle of the zoom range. If you are already in the middle, then this may not apply to you.
Usually CA isn't quite as much as you have in the screenshot, so it may be pure panel MC which there isn't much you can do about other than contact Sony and see if they'll replace your projector - still a gamble to see if you'll get a better one.

Hi, Li On and sethk,
I tried your suggestion but it does not help. Just want to ask the owners of VW50: do you encounter similar problem?

I had a total of four VW50's over 4 months and all had varying degrees of MC/CA. Some worse than yours in parts of the image. :( It does appear to different between units and there is possibly a sweet spot based on lens zoom and shift position.
I believe the the Sony tolerance for MC is up to 2 pixels out on any part of the image.

I have no visible MC whatsoever.
Your first picture seems to show a lot of misconvergence but the second looks far more reasonable.
Not sure how they are so different.
My set has 1/2 pixel error in places similar to the cross hatch you show but it is not visible from even 3 ft away.

Hi, jhe,
The camera was closer to the image when I took the first picture than the second one, and so the first picture may let you feel that the misconvergence is more serious. You know, the word 'Video' is given by the VW50 itself when you select the video input.

The MC in your pix is fairly representative of the Pearl and similar to the MC I see on my unit. It's within Sony specs. The advice an AVS member gave to me: watch movies, not test patterns. It's good advice. Relax and enjoy your Pearl.

The first picture would be outside Sonys 2 from 1 spec IMO. If you can clearly see R,B,G on the same pixel it is out of spec!
