Hello all,

I currently own the Vizio vp42...I have been loving how crisp the hd programming is, but the sd looks like crap.......I have kept the brightness way below 50 since I am still under the 100hour mark....I have usd the break in disc quite often as well.....

Here is my problem.....My wife and I were watching the NBA finals last night and after only 5 to 10 minutes of wathcing the game...I have some image retention that lasted for 10 minutes or more...I even switched the channel multiple time to try to reduce this from happening....

I officially love the quality of a plasma tv...but my question is....If i take this set back and get a "name" brand....would the image retention be as severe on that set...I really want to play games on my plasma but I know the image retention would be insane on the Vizio vp42.......If so I may have to go back to lcd............

Thanks in advance..........

Some panels are more resistant to IR than others but you are best off following the break-in recommendations specified in Panasonic's white paper:

Plasma Facts and Myths Panasonic Presents Advice From the Video Purist Perspective (http://www.dynamicdigital.ca/documents/Plasma%20Facts%20and%20Myths.pdf)

If it's within your means, I highly recommend you return the Vizio for a better quality panel. I've owned two Pannys over the Last three years and gamed extensively on both without a hint of I.R. ever.. Pioneer, Panny, and Samsung would be my order of choice, but any one of them is going to preform better than the Vizio in all areas, plus you get the benefit of Piece of mind that if anything goes wrong you have a reputable company backing it up. I've heard horror stories about Vizio customer service. Good luck.

What was the IR ???

Outside of gaming or static images, I never heard of regular TV watching causing IR or BI. Even with a bright logo in the corner.

I have a Philips 42" 9631 and only IR problem I ever had is when I left the TIME box on for about 20 minutes and it left a light outline that faded within the hour.

I had the nba finals on last night and the sports bar was static on the screen for several minutes after I changed the channel. the sad thing is that I was only watching the game for 5 to 10 minutes.

i even get a static image of my input menu on screen if its on for more than 1 minute...no exaggeration.....one minute of that or my time warner cable info bar and it has some ghosting.......

I just figured that this should only happen minimally but i am seeing it often....

thanks for any help
