...going buggy trying to sort through all the threads on all the different recorders...information overload.
I'm just looking for suggestions...
I don't watch enough tv regularly to merit a DVR. I want a DVD recorder primarily to convert tapes to DVD, and to record and archive the occasional movie from TCM that isn't available on commercial DVD. I plan to use rewritable DVDs for the occasional time-shifting, and for carrying video from the recorder to my computer for editing, etc. I don't need a DVD recorder with a built-in VHS deck...I have three VCRs that work fine that I can connect to it. I don't foresee getting into high-def anytime soon. Although I do hope to get a projector in the next year or two (I don't know what kind yet) if that has any bearing.
For Father's Day I got a $100 gift card at Best Buy...gotta use it on something, so I'm thinking of checking out their machines. They have models by Philips, Samsung, Panasonic.
Any recommendations you can give me re. brands or even specific models?
Thanks much!
EDIT: Also, I want the recorder to have a tuner. I have yer basic analog cable tv; again, no plans to go digital cable or hi-def anytime soon.
