I have a large L-shaped room where we are putting in a 58" plasma and speakers. The room is probably close to 500 cu ft in total. We have a long, low cabinet that was going to hold 2 subs and well as our AVR and other components. My wife is rejecting the aesthetics of speaker cloth on the two cabinet doors that hold the subs (I was thinking about dual SVS SB12's). She's grudgingly considering allowing one bigger sub to sit at the far end of the cabinet, outside the cabinet, to avoid the speaker cloth issue.

So what can I buy for up to $1000 that offers good bass for a room of this size. Usage will be 98% TV/movies, 2% music. Wall-shaking, butt-shaking sound isn't as important as it being clean and crisp.

Perhaps more importantly, the thing has to pass the wife aesthetic test (so HSU turbo models are out). I was thinking maybe an SVS cylinder might work ok. Any other suggestions on something that looks ok that does the job? Thanks.

I recently bought a SVS PB12/Plus2 in piano gloss black. My wife loves it as an end table and it produces Monster Bass. And it's just a bit above your budget.
