View Full Version : 'TOUCH OF EVIL' on Cinemax HD!
jrusnak 06-15-07, 09:08 PM Broadcast on Cinemax, this is the amended, "restored" edition...supposedly more in line with what Orson Welles originally intended.
Comcast subscribers, don't be fooled by the channel guide listing, which incorrectly describes this as a Tony Leung actioner.
When is it HD? I can't find it on the schedule.
jrusnak, could you at least provide little further information; such as a date and time?
Wow, that would be so helpful!
afiggatt 06-16-07, 03:53 PM When is it HD? I can't find it on the schedule.
A search on the Cinemax website shows airings on June 20 and some in July, but these are all on the non-HD channels- Thiller Max, Outer Max, More Max. The list did not show any on the Cinemax-HD channel.
jrusnak 06-16-07, 09:21 PM The broadcast I recorded was Friday morning at 6:15 AM. I had assumed that this would be repeated. But, as others have indicated, there does not appear to be another showing in the next few weeks. My apologies for not checking that out first. They will poribably re-run it again (Hopefully before summer's end), just as MAX has recently re-run Hammer's CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN in HD, which I had previously seen a couple months back. If I see it scheduled again, I'll post it here in advance.
Brad1963 06-20-07, 08:05 PM Damn. I wanted to DVR Touch of Evil. I did notice that Cinemax is showing a favorite of mine from 1978, The Big Fix starring Richard Dreyfuss. It will be on at 3:30am on the 26th of July. But it will be in Hi Def.
jrusnak 06-21-07, 01:20 PM Previous showings of FIX weren't HD, but one can only hope this time around.

HoustonGuy 06-24-07, 02:44 AM Too bad!- Love to catch this flick HD.
btokars 06-24-07, 06:02 AM HD? No.
Strange. I have it on my DVR - looked at the first couple minutes of it (haven't had the time to sit down and see it all) and it is in HD. May have been the first showing on MaxHD but it most certainly is HD. Not sure why they would only have one showing of it in HD.

It aired in HD but isn't on the schedule to re-air in HD, at least not anytime in the next month.

djdickerson 06-24-07, 12:51 PM Great flick and worth watching. Peter Bogdanavich had it re-edited directly from Orson Welles' notes and memo so it is exactly the way Welles conceived it. The opening sequence is the longest continuous shot (some 3 1/2 minutes) without an edit in a movie. Welles had decided on 1 week as the time needed to shoot the opening scene. Then he decided he could do it all in one continuous shot and picked up 4 days in the shooting schedule.
jrusnak 06-26-07, 04:29 PM Having finally watched the film, I must say that the HD was excellent. Close-ups of Welles' bloated cop were perhaps more detailed than one might wish for! A few scenes did reflect the limited budget, but overall a very nice presentation. Keep checking the monthly listings, as it will probably show up again at some time like 4:00 - 6:00 AM!
