View Full Version : Pioneer 1140HD and Scientific Atlanta 8300 Box
Howdy guys,
I just upgraded to High Definition with my local cable company (Cox) and they sent me a Scientific Atlanta 8300 Box. When i connect this to my pio 1140hd the picture locked every 15mins or so. I called the cable company and they reset my box, and now my picture locks every 45 mins or so. I have to shut down my tv and my box for roughly 15 mins to have it work again, and then i suffer the same locking after about 45 mins. Does anyone know if there is an option that i have to change on my tv? I've tried changing auto resize to off, and it did not help. Could it be a bad box? or am i just an idiot? Any help would be appreciated.
P.S: I have researched this topic and have found other people to have the same case but have yet to find an answer in fixing it.

I should have mentioned.... I have tested both hdmi ports with my bluray player and they both work. In addition, i have used multiple hdmi cables with the cable box and i get the same result. I had an OTA Antenna with the 1140HD, and it worked as well. Everything i've troubleshooted shows that the box is to blame, but i connected it via component and i had no problems.....
fhanna36 06-16-07, 01:32 AM Sounds like it's the HDMI connection on the box, swap the box, if it keeps happening your stuck with component or a new carrier. Maybe there's a firmware update for the box. Good Luck
Replaced the box today with a new one. Everything seemed to be working fine, but surely enough 30mins into watching Star Wars on HBO, the screen locked up again. Anyone else have any insights on what i can do to fix this?

It could be an HDCP issue but i kinda doubt it. But to rule this out, try turning the 8300 and TV both off, then turn on the TV first, wait several seconds, then turn the 8300 on. People get the best results by turning the TV on first, then turning on the cable box. I actually never turn my 8300HD off - i leave it on 24/7 and never have a problem.
Another option is to have your cable company let you borrow a regular HD STB (non-DVR) with an HDMI output and try that for a few days and see if the TV does the same thing as it does with the DVR.
You might also try seeing if there's a Cox 8300HD thread in the HDTV Recorders forum and see if anyone else has a similar problem, or can advise you on what to do.
When the image "locks up" it looks as if the screen is readjusting the picture size. It is the same thing that happens when i put in a bluray movie into my Samsung BDP1200, but that only last for 3 seconds then the picture comes up. I have tried turning off both boxes and turning on the tv first before the 8300, but the same thing happens, but instead of locking up or continously resizing itself, the tv flashes a blue screen every couple of seconds. when contacting cox, they told me that the 8300 displays a blue scientific atlanta picture when the box is turned off, so im assuming thats what it is. i'm just having difficulty pointing a finger in deciding whether its the tv or the 8300.

I also have the BDP-1200 blu ray paired with the 1140 - excellent picture no doubt but do you get frequent handshake issues? such as snow screen etc. I have upgraded the Samsung to the latest firmware and I believe the handshake has gone down a lot. Also another question I had what settings you have for your Sammy (24fps off, on, 1080p or 1080i) connected to your 1140?
Justanopinion 06-18-07, 09:34 AM I have Time Worthless instead of Cox. The TV is fine, but I had problems with the HDMI also and TW does not provide HDMI support, only suport for composite cables. I had to take back the box and they had to resend the activation signal several times before it worked.....shot the entire afternoon down the tubes
