Okay, first off, this topic is intended to be SEPERATE from the actual HD-DVD/BR format war. I'm not talking about either format in particular, just HD optical media in general.
My question: What would YOU like to see happen as a result of these two formats? Will you not be happy until the entire world is HD-only, and DVD sits in a landfill? Or, will you be content as long as you get what you want?
Seems there's a lot of very divergent opinions in this forum alone... I'd love to see hard numbers as to who stands where.
Here are the choices, unabridged. I know many people fall into the grey area in between, but that's okay, just pick which ever side you feel closest to.
#1 The Real Format War is SD vs HD! We need to focus on widespread adoption and the inevitable replacement of SD DVD. Individual formats aren't as important as HD as a whole. More than anything, you want a future where nothing runs at less than 720p.
#2 Let them eat cake! You love HD, but only care about advancing your chosed disc format to get your movie fix. You'd be fine with HD media maintaining less than 10% penetration, indefinately, so long as you have a steady diet of movies to watch.
