DvD/VCR recorder that Edits dvds? I'd like to record ..stop..pause...and continue at the drop of a dime. ANyone have any sugestions?

I'd suggest first of all that you better describe exactly what you want to do with the combo unit because what you are describing (record..stop[?]..pause..and continue) doesn't resemble dvd editing. That is, are you looking for editing features or quick response to basic transport commands?

The Panasonic DVD/VCR combo units allow editing on DVD-RAM discs (only). Rewriteable discs (RAM, -RW) recorded in VR mode generally allow on disc editing. But if you are looking to do do significant editing before your final burn you might be better off using a combo unit that has a hard disk drive (HDD) such as the Panasonic DMR-EH75V - VCR/HDD/DVD recorder. With a HDD yoy can edit (e.g., cut out commercials or unwanted segments, rearrange segments) on the HDD recording then dub your edited program to disc in the more playback compatible Video mode (vs. VR mode described above). DVD recorders with HDD's are getting harder to find in the US since manufacturers are not required to include digital tuners in their units. No Panasonic, Sony, or Pioneer units have 2007 models with HDD's. The Panasonic EH75 can still be found at some Circuit City stores or online but are all practically gone. It lacks a VCR section, however , if that is a must have feature. Many people like the flexibility of hooking up an external VCR to the DVD recorder for tape to DVD dubbing because copy protection filters or video enhancing boxes can be connected between the output of the vcr and input of the DVD recorder as necessary. This flexibility is not possible on DVD recorder units with built-in VCRs. Good luck.
