Hi all,

A search of this site came up blank. I used to be able to use zap2it.com to search for HDTV movies with a 3 or 4 star critique rating which are showing on my custom channel listing (the channels I get). It appears that their new and improved (not!) system does not allow this search.

Does anyone know of an online tool which allows such a search?

I know that a lot of people don't think that the star critique rating is useful, but I like to use it as a filter to determine what I will record, and later decide if it is worth watching.

Thanks in advance.

I think the best way to get a quick estimate on a movie's quality is to look it up on IMDb:

http://www.imdb.com/

The site will give you the average of the votes of all IMDb voters who have rated it, as well as a link to collected external reviews. There may be a quicker way to get a line on a movie but I have not seen one that works as well for me.

TitanTV shows movie ratings (stars) in its Today's HDTV view, and you can optionally turn it on in the grid view (for seeing all channels or 24 hours of one channel). But I'm not aware of a way to search by ratings.

IMDB ratings are no substitute for critical ratings.

Thanks to each of you for your input.

I don't see any way to seach TV listings of channels I receive on the IMDB site. It does not seem to be tv-listing oriented.

I contacted the folks at Titan TV to see if their system had the cabability to search by critical rating, and it does not.

Still looking for such an online tool...

IMDb rankings, particularly those that are very high or very low for a movie that has been in release for awhile are useful, at least as useful as what the critics think, it seems to me. In the final analysis, of course, how "good" or "bad" any film is, is a matter of personal choice. Thus, any critical assessment from anywhere has its limitations.

The IMDb page for any given movie makes available more information about that movie than it’s possible to find through any other single source. In addition to telling you what IMDb voters and critics thought of it, it tells you its technical specs, collects quotes from the film, gives DVD information, and a bunch of other stuff, too. Try it, you’ll like it. :)

IMDB is not meant for such purposes.

YahooTV used to have a feature, but they also "improved" their website so now it is 100% useless.
