I want to dual connect my Xbox 360 to both component (hi-def) and RCA connections (whole house video distribution system) so I can both play the game in my Media Room on the hi-def TV and also play the game anywhere in the house.
But the cable only supports using 1 output type. Is there any solution that can let me dual connect my 360?

Simultaneously? No. Not without added hardware.
Switching between the two, however, is doable.
The component video cable includes composite out and has a switch on the plug that goes into the 360 to switch from HD component to SD output. Flipping that switch while the 360 is *off* would let you switch from HD to composite output for your distribution system.

if you leave it on "TV" you can output HD or SD, but not HD and SD
you will need a splitter/encoder deal to do that

Hi neilgreene. I have been trying to do a similar thing for quite a while. This is my setup:
Living Room:
Toshiba 51HX93 TV HDTV
Denon DD/DTS Stereo
Xbox 360 Elite
Wireless Composite Sender
Bedroom:
RCA 36" TV
Using TV speakers for sound.
Wireless Composite Reciever
What I have done is the HDMI of the 360 goes to the Toshiba TV.
I cut off the top rubber half of the MS HDMI cable so I could fit a Monster S-Video cable simultaniously. In testing a found a few things:
1. If there is an HDMI cable plugged into the Elite, it will not go to the analog output. Even if the TV HDMI it is connected to is off. To get around this I bought a cheap Monoprice HDMI switcher. If it is switched to the empty input the 360 will go to the analog out.
2. I originally used the monster Component plugged in with Optical to the Denon. That worked OK. So the 360 would use HDMI to the Toshiba and Optical to the Denon.
3. I then tried the MS Core Composite cable (Also skinny like the monster so it fit) That seemed to work. HDMI to the Toshiba and when the Monoprice was set to the empty input the sound and video would go to the RCA in the bedroom. But there was one problem. The MS cable has no optical out. Based on this I figured I could get the monster S-video cable with optical out port and all should work.
4. Well this did not. Even though the Monster Component worked fine and the MS one worked the Monster S-Video is a different beast. Now if I have have both plugged in (HDMI to the Toshiba, Optical to the Denon, S-video to the Bedroom RCA TV) and try to play in the living room, The 360 Thinks I am using VGA and my HDMI has VGA resoultions. As I run 1080i that is not a VGA choice. It does work fine when I switch the Monoprice to the unused input and use the RCA TV in the bedroom. So I have to unplug the monster S-video when I am in the living room and plug in the Elites A/V Optical sound adapter. Quite a pain.
The only thing I can think of is the monster S-video is somehow making the 360 think it is a VGA cable. Monster Component doesnt do it and the MS Composite does not either. Sorry for the long post. I am looking for a cable with optical out, composite and is thin like a monster so it will fit with my modified HDMI cable.
