hi,

not sure if any Laser people still frequent the forum but here it goes.

I bought a ProScan ld player off of a guy a few months back and until last week it was working great. I was watching a movie when the audio got very low and scratchy. I can barely hear it even when I turn the movie up all the way.

I have tried different cables and different Audio settings on the player. The video still looks normal. I am connected through stereo cables to a 2 channel stereo. I have tried other sources and the stereo is functioning perfectly.

Anyone have any ideas? thanks.

Is the digital audio only failing or analog and digital out of the RCA outputs? As the laser starts to wear out or components in the signal path start to fail the Digital output from the RCA jacks will be the first to go. Then as the signal continues to degrade you will eventually loose video. I have seen electroyltic caps tied to the signal path or weak laser output cause this problem.

I tried both by pushing the digital/analog button and it makes no difference. I do not have a DD or dts receiver so i cannot test that. thanks for the reply.

The audio circuits will use some voltages different from the video section so you could have a power problem. Hard to say without looking at it. The question is, how much do you want to invest in the player?

not too much. i would like a player w/ AC-3 out or with an optical out but i think i am going for right now to just get a cheaper player until I can afford a nice one. Probably an older Pioneer. Thanks.

You can always look for a CLD-D406. The latest low end model and it has AC-3 RF output

thanks. it just sucks that even though I only have stereo sound, I cannot even enjoy that b/c the player is messed up. It is definitely time to get a new LD player and a new sound system. Off to ebay or craigslist.
