View Full Version : NASCAR on TNT - Michigan 400 looks bad. EKaskewsky 06-17-07, 02:31 PM Watching the race and it really looks bad. Is anyone else having this problem? Lumpy 06-17-07, 02:33 PM Horrible, horrible pq. toastyfries 06-17-07, 02:34 PM It looks really bad for me too, on Tucson Cox. On the zoomed in shots of the cars going by, there are trails of the cars colors after they pass, and many other digital artifacts. EKaskewsky 06-17-07, 02:36 PM Thanks, checked both my tv's and both bad. I got directv, so it must be TNT's broadcast. It's the worst I haved ever seen it. Lumpy 06-17-07, 02:37 PM I hope they fix it. Not a very auspicious start for NASCAR on TNT this year. It seems to be the cameras. Some of the in-car shots look ok but track cameras are very bad. Commercials are normal (for TNT on D*). EKaskewsky 06-17-07, 02:38 PM Looking forward to ESPN taking over. RDJR 06-17-07, 02:40 PM Looks terrible via D*. Last week on TNT from Pocono looked better even with the rain. vertigo235 06-17-07, 02:41 PM Bad Bad Bad Run4two 06-17-07, 02:55 PM The worst I've seen. lowmazda 06-17-07, 02:57 PM At first I thought it was Directv till I checked in here. Great show when Hamlin in the #11 car comes and goes under the fence. It's bleeding all over the place. Thanks for the free acid trip TNT. Lumpy 06-17-07, 03:00 PM Since I had another unrelated issue I wanted to discuss with D* I called and asked them about it and the CSR said TNT is aware and are working on it. EKaskewsky 06-17-07, 03:03 PM cool, they might get it taking care of by the end of the race. Maybe their cameras got wet last week. mx6bfast 06-17-07, 03:06 PM Yeah I'm seeing the bleeding also on D*. This kinda reminds me when NBC was sending the Talledega race last year at like 15 mbps instead of ~45. In a related note, I can't tell which PQ worse, this race or the US Open. Lumpy 06-17-07, 03:22 PM I wonder if their goofy pylon graphics aren't part of the problem. mx6bfast 06-17-07, 03:40 PM Here's what I was talking about in my post. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=733712 AnthonyB 06-17-07, 03:46 PM I think this is the worst I've seen ever. HDNet Movies doesn't look this bad rkunces 06-17-07, 03:46 PM The pq isn't that bad. It's the terrible and awful macro-blocking and pixelation. mx6bfast 06-17-07, 03:50 PM The pq isn't that bad. It's the terrible and awful macro-blocking and pixelation. That is the part that's making it bad. You can't say "the PQ is great, if you remove the blocking, bleeding, etc." scsiraid 06-17-07, 03:51 PM Yup... looks pretty bad. I was also surprised when a resolution change occured when local commercials were inserted. It went from 1080i to 480i. Hadnt seen that before. Lumpy 06-17-07, 04:18 PM Whoa, that beard was alive. Southern2356 06-17-07, 04:21 PM cool, they might get it taking care of by the end of the race. Maybe their cameras got wet last week. Now that's funny! I'm sure they are putting out a perfectly good signal at the side of the mobile unit. I would suspect the issue is downstream. Marco33 06-17-07, 05:03 PM That is without a doubt the WORST HD presentation I have EVER seen. If I would have know it was going to be that bad I would have watched the SD channel. It's been bad all week. shawn12341234 06-17-07, 05:05 PM i watched it on fios and it look awful...anyone else see trails made of squares coming off the the brightly colored cars...looks like my local nbc broadcast from last year. Lumpy 06-17-07, 05:08 PM I would suspect the issue is downstream. The HDNet showing should tell. The replays and recaps didn't look as bad. tstolze 06-17-07, 05:11 PM Just got home and caught the end on Dish....Had to be the worst HD experience to date... :( CrashMaster 06-17-07, 05:13 PM Yeh just got done watching the race and it looked bad... I almost switched back to TNT regular on Dish. (but that is just a blurry mess like all the reg def. stuff is with them) Cowchip 06-17-07, 05:18 PM I thought NHL on NBC was bad, but this tops that by a mile! Watching on E* but it appears that it was awful pretty much everywhere. quickfire 06-17-07, 05:34 PM i watched it on fios and it look awful...anyone else see trails made of square coming off the the brightly colored cars...looks like my local nbc broadcast from last year. If D* & FIOS both are showing a crappy picture then its the TNTHD cameras.......... TNT needs to get this fixed RIGHT NOW!!!!! Inundated 06-17-07, 05:41 PM I didn't know TNT had a separate channel in Michigan. :D eddy_winds 06-17-07, 05:43 PM The pq isn't that bad. It's the terrible and awful macro-blocking and pixelation. Same here LoL Southern2356 06-17-07, 05:45 PM If D* & FIOS both are showing a crappy picture then its the TNTHD cameras.......... TNT needs to get this fixed RIGHT NOW!!!!! I doubt it. It would be down stream of the mobile unit. Do you really believe that the TNT engineers would let crappy quality out? 99.9% of ugliness from an HD broadcast can be attributed to downstream of the origination point. quickfire 06-17-07, 05:58 PM I doubt it. It would be down stream of the mobile unit. Do you really believe that the TNT engineers would let crappy quality out? 99.9% of ugliness from an HD broadcast can be attributed to downstream of the origination point. GOOD POINT...none the less TNTHD has to get the picture quality problems fixed.......I can no longer watch Nascar in SD  :( Scooper 06-17-07, 06:15 PM The SD version on an SDTV looked fine on Dish Ken H 06-17-07, 07:45 PM If D* & FIOS both are showing a crappy picture then its the TNTHD cameras..........Please. Schlotkins 06-17-07, 08:05 PM Guys, not sure if this is related, but I saw the same thing today. I also saw the problem when watching some HD movies earlier. I thought there was something wrong with my cable (Cox CT), but I think it's something with TNT in general and not just the NASCAR race. Chris Marco33 06-17-07, 09:13 PM I don't think it matters if the problem is from TNT or our providers. Either way TNT should be the ones concerned. I know that HBO has some sort of deal were the provider guarantees Xmbs to broadcast their channel... or something like that. henry296 06-17-07, 09:34 PM It was so bad early in the race, that my wife noticed it. Comcast in Baltimore 4HiMarks 06-17-07, 11:39 PM The SD version on an SDTV looked fine on Dish Well the TNTHD version on my Dish 622 looked just as crappy as everyone else commented. It was nearly unwatchable. The commercials were doing it to a lesser extent, so it wasn't their cameras. It seemed worse during fast motion. I wondered if it was due to the difference between a 1080i signal and Fox's 720p on my 720p DLP. So I'm sort of glad everyone else saw the same thing. At least I know it isn't my equipment. -Chris Lumpy 06-18-07, 12:06 AM Van Helstretch and The Sixth Stretch, especially, were bad following the race, as well. And still are. hiltsy855 06-18-07, 07:16 AM Easily the worst HD presentation I've seen to date. And TNT has the next 4 races..... 2003SVTCobra 06-18-07, 11:27 AM Easily the worst HD presentation I've seen to date. And TNT has the next 4 races..... Same here, at least now I can get some work done around the house for the next 4 weekends. Thanks TNT wrwine3 06-18-07, 12:59 PM The broadcast on Comcast cable was horrible. I thought it might be the box since I picked it up earlier in the week. I watched the previous race without the box and it was much better. I picked up the box because my qam tuner had video but no audio on TNT HD. I ran audio from a vcr to my stereo but the video delay of between five and ten seconds drove me nuts. If I had thought about having my dvr delay the audio, I might have not picked up the box. tex1080 06-18-07, 05:35 PM Noticed the same thing here in Dallas from Time Warner, I turned the color all the way up on my tv to see if it was the feed or TV and the pixelation was terrible. I had to almost watch it in B&W to keep from getting dizzy. jefbal99 06-18-07, 10:01 PM PQ was pretty poor, but then there were some really good shots. over all i give it a below average rating. Good to see Carl win. I had a sad, sad Nascar day today. I'm having back surgery a week from tomorrow and gave my Brickyard tickets to my Aunt and Uncle. [tear] [tear] I'll atleast get to watch the race in HD on ESPN. I'll reorder for next year. Max MacKay 06-18-07, 10:03 PM Easily the worst HD presentation I've seen to date. And TNT has the next 4 races..... Agreed. TNT HD sucks! It totally ruined my enjoyment of the race. I miss Fox with DW!!! I hope they get their act together...they actually are broadcasting 8 more races (10 total) then ESPN takes over. Max MacKay 06-19-07, 12:48 AM I stand corrected....it IS 4 more races on TNT! Yay! That's a relief! :D It's not only the PQ issues...but the broadcast team leaves a lot to be desired and the inconsistency and randomness of their commercial breaks is annoying to put it mildly. Well, at least I can watch the replay on HDNet on Thursday. I am sure the PQ will be much better. mzubb 06-20-07, 12:00 AM It was so bad early in the race, that my wife noticed it. Now that's funny! Max MacKay 06-20-07, 08:16 PM I logged on to the TNT HD website this morning and sent them an email to complain. We'll see what kind of response I get...if any. Southern2356 06-20-07, 09:41 PM I logged on to the TNT HD website this morning and sent them an email to complain. We'll see what kind of response I get...if any. They probably already know... I seem to think somebody there reads this forum. mx6bfast 06-20-07, 09:59 PM They probably already know... I seem to think somebody there reads this forum. Then why can't they do something with the stretch-o-vision and HD showing on every program? If someone from TNT does read it this forum they need to realize what kind of travisty they are doing to HD. otk 06-21-07, 12:03 AM i don't think TNT-HD is a real HD channel michael_tus_sez 06-21-07, 04:30 AM If I would have know it was going to be that bad I would have watched the SD channel. You were watching SD, sort of. A number of the cameras were SD cameras (mostly the ones showing the wide shots) which was upconverted to 1080i - at least that is what it looked like to a number of us who were hoping for a good HD experience. |
