i only have 1 dvi input and id like to use one of these players in that slot. i do have component inputs but id like to use 1 of these in the dvi port so itll upconvert standard dvds which of these players has the best upconvert picture quality? thanks for the help

I don't know about "best"; all have gotten good reviews for SD picture quality. The PS3 requires the latest firmware upgrade.

Among better players the differences in SD quality are subtle. You won't see night and day improvements.

Before trying any of them, verify that the DVI port on your display has HDCP, or none of them will work out of the box. There is a firmware hack for the Oppo which disables HDCP.

Can you link to the hack for the 981 or pm me how to find it? I've only seen a hack for the 970, andI'd love to be able to hook my 981 up to a 720p Proj w/o HDCP via DVI.

This patch tool was developed to enable component upscaling on the 970, but it also disables HDCP on both the 970 and 981. I haven't used it, but reliable reports say it works well.
